The banlist announcement was recently released, and Pauper was the only format to change.

You can find rumors almost anywhere, though.

How frequently to ban lists get updated?

There are banned list updates two weeks before expansion sets are released. Thus the next one will be in February, two weeks before Born of the Gods is released.

I don't think there are any updates associated with core set releases, but I might be wrong on that.

That is, the announcements are made two weeks before set release. The changes actually go into effect on the day the set is released.

There have been out-of-sequence emergency bannings in the past, but they're very rare and haven't happened in a very long time.

Wasn't Stoneforge Mystic and Jace, the Mind Sculptor part of the last emergency bannings?

So then, what are some predictions of cards that may be banned in modern? And what cards do you want to be banned? (question one is an objective quesion, question two is opinion, this is reminder text).

My prediction: none, at least not in the next couple of bannings cycles.

I know that there are a lot of people complaining about the dominance of Deathrite Shaman decks and how DRS should be banned. But Wizards does not (at least since the format was new) execute bans off the results of one single tournament. Remember that in the last Modern GP, in Kansas City, there were exactly 6 copies of DRS in the top 16. And none of those were in any Jund-like deck (three were in the winning Melira Pod list and three were in an RB Burn deck).

In fact, based on the results from Detroit, one could make a more compelling case for banning Scavenging Ooze . It was the card that was different, the new addition that pushed GB over the top. It also makes an entire class of graveyard-based strategies completely unplayable. Sounds more bannable than DRS to me.

If GB dominance continues through Richmond in March, then I could see new bans coming in May, but that's a big if. There just aren't enough Modern tournaments before the February ban list update for much to happen there.

What I'd like to see is some unbannings. Banning Wild Nacatl was always a mistake, and Ancestral Vision would look good right about now.
