So most of us probably got that sweet Stoke the Flames FNM promo last night, and we know it's good in Standard (it's a freaking $4 uncommon!). But I want to know if anyone thinks it could do anything in Modern. I think it's too slow/expensive, but I'm curious to see what T/O has to say about it.

It's way too expensive. There's no reason to play it over something like Lightning Bolt or even Flame Slash.

Burn and Delver are the only decks that would want that damage, and it costs too much. Even with Convoke, both of those decks would rather attack with their creatures instead of tapping them for some damage. I already sold all of my Stoke the Flames, and with the promo out then it's unlikely that it will retain its price tag, especially after it rotates out.

Boros Charm is better. Or even 2x Lightning Bolts.

Standard has a way of inflating the prices of cards. Good in Standard doesn't actually mean anything in terms of usefulness in the long run a good percentage of the time. There are obvious cases where Standard all-stars have been top performers in Legacy or Modern (Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Liliana of the Veil, Delver of Secrets  Flip, etc.), but they are the exception, not the rule.

You could probably get away with 1 in a UR Delver deck. It's generally too slow, and doesn't do enough for a 4 CMC card.

its a worthless card once it rotates out.

might see use in token diarrhea decks in legacy or modern but i haven't seen a tier 1 / 1.5 one for a long time.
