So I'm almost positive it's been discussed before, but the 8th place deck ran 1 Stormbreath Dragon in the sb. So was this a meta call from Abzan or should we expect more play from the standard giant?

Thundermaw Hellkite is only better when tons of people are running Lingering Souls
Stormbreath is actually decent in aggressive midrange decks

Which ironically as I check, the top Abzan lists of the pool were....

Died to Dismember though which is common because Abzan has to beat itself in the mirror haha. But generally it's a really awesome card that dodges most of the removal and hits hard the turn you play it. I love it.

They're both strong against Souls, Hellkite is a bit better. Stormbreath Dragon doesn't die to Path in an abstract sense.

I wouldn't expect Dismember to be in their deck postboard unless they know I bring dragons in.

I'd keep a singleton in because Restoration Angel. Though it would still take me by surprise. I only run 3 Path to Exile so I'd want to have 4 removal spells capable of hitting the angel.

I didn't say stormbreath was bad against souls. I said hellkite was better :/

Stormbreath is my favorite finisher for decks like Skred. The Protection is super relevant, and if you actually get the monstrous off you've clearly won.

I have been running Stormbreath Dragon since forever. The appearance of Siege Rhino just makes the dragon better now, which makes me happy. Anyways, the reasons why I originally chose Stormbreath were its resistance to removal, haste, and potential for growing later in the game.

Stormbreath Dragon and Thundermaw Hellkite are equally justifiable. It depends what you want to do.

stormbreath dies to less removal than hellkite and doesnt get blocked by souls just the same as hellkite. However, stormbreath races a souls much worse than hellkite.

Actually really good. Haste creature that takes down Liliana in one shot and dies to exactly zero cards that will be in your opponent's deck in game 2. The argument between this guy and Thundermaw Hellkite is close, but Stormbreath is real good.
