Substitution for Raven Guild Master
Modern forum

I'm making a mill deck (yeah, really), and right now an all-star in is it Raven Guild Master . I love him, but his exile function really hurts me. I have card:Jace's Phantasm and Visions of Beyond in there, so the cards not going to the graveyard kind of hurts me.
Are there any modern cards out there that have "when this creature deals damage to a player, that player puts the top X cards of his deck into his graveyard", or some variant of it?
I already have Hedron Crab in there.
Thanks!

Yeah, I forgot to mention, it needs to be mono-blue. Otherwise, he'd be amazing! I was thinking mayyybe Undead Alchemist , then throwing in some zombies for acceleration...?

If you use Undead Alchemist , you don't actually need any other zombies to make him effective. He does a crazy amount of work if he can connect even once (provided your opponent is using a decent number of creatures).
He accelerates all by himself, so you don't really need other zombies for support.

That being said, he's only meh in Standard, so trying to use him to mill in Modern seems like it won't be terribly competitive.

Good point. And since I'm milling by other means, his ability would still activate, right?

Yes. Yes it would. I actually forgot about that. You should have no problem making zombies.

Nemesis of Reason is badass as hell, you could consider him.

idk why this needs to be mono-blue, but Glimpse the Unthinkable , Hedron Crab , Traumatize , Circu, Dimir Lobotomist , Nemesis of Reason , Tome Scour , Oona, Queen of the Fae , Extirpate /Surgical Extraction along with discard abilities like Dimir Cutpurse , Horrifying Revelation , and Ghastlord of Fugue help to thin/cripple an opponents deck.

...Circu exiles? That's exactly what OP is trying to avoid doing.

Mono-blue is easiest atm. If I ever get the cash for the blue/black dual lands, I'll get them. Nemesis of Reason seems like a game ender :o Might have to try him out. Same with Glimpse the Unthinkable .
Thanks for the suggestions!

So I guess I'm taking Undead Alchemist for now, until I get the lands to splash black?

Darkslick Shores aren't all that expensive right now, and Drowned Catacomb (from an older core set) might not be either. I wouldn't run shocks for a casual deck.

Szadek, Lord of Secrets may be a little high cost; but he mills pretty quickly.
