Tasigur, the Golden Hooker

Lately, it seems like everyone is trying to jam Tasigur, the Golden Fang into every deck. I've seen him in burn decks, I've seen him in infect decks, I've even seen him in a twin deck. It just seems like everyone is passing him around in every deck. From my experience playing those who are running him in those, I can say it seems like it does more harm than good and they get their faces smashed in by any deck with speed. At which point they ask me if he is worth it and I say no, not this specific deck.
With that said, Tasigur is good at doing what he does. Unfortunately, it seems like that's only in a select few decks such as Abzan, Amulet, and a few decks when going against abzan. It seems like he has a very specific niche...amulet, abzan, sometimes against abzan.
Am I right in saying this? Does Tasigur have a specific niche? Can we stop jamming him into every deck like male sex toy?

The people playing him in burn and infect are bad players. this is not the norm in the competitive sphere

Whoa I love this new text thingy!
Tasigur is awesome in Twin, Abzan and not much else. No one's playing him in Infect or Burn.

julianjmoss, I found the twin deck to be troublesome too. It just seemed like it slowed the deck down and limited the control. Especially against control. instead of playing a Pestermite, Deceiver Exarch, or leaving mana open for control, I was just able to stomp on them during turn 3 (possibly 4...i forget which) and get out everyhting I needed to win. Where if they had left mana open or gotten out their combo, I would have been in trouble. Easy target for Searing Blaze. It just eemed like tasigur changed the playstyle too much. Granted that deck won't only be going up against burn...just a thought.

GlistenerAgent: So you found him useful in twin? And you should really tell the people I'm playing anf hearing about that....

Tasigur makes the deck better in almost every other matchup. Alongside the Thought Scour that the Twin decks are making good use of to support Snapcaster Mage and Harvest Pyre, he can really buy back some relevant and powerful spells.
Try him out. Nuts.

He is good in twin because instead of playing tarmo-twin and splashing green, you play grixis which opens you up to play certain removal, and disruption which is a big plus.

So in reality he just should have sided him out, GlistenerAgent haha. How does the deck fair against other aggro decks such as affinity, bogles, and merfolk (i ask about the last 2 because that's whats played at my lgs)?

I can totally see playing grixis with him instead of tarm-twin julianjmoss. But I think regular twin is better than both.

Straight UR is the best way to go with Twin right now.
As for the Grixis deck, adding Tasigur improves your matchup against midrange and slower aggressive decks. You get to play black removal spells and sideboard cards, making your originally unfavorable Scapeshift matchup a lot better with discard spells and Slaughter Games.

Thanks for the input GlistenerAgent. I know what to tell people next time. You are saying it has a specfic niche in twin and abzan?

Tasigur is a midrange card through and through. Card advantage ability, no innate combo potential. You need to play him in a shell that wants to grind opponents out. The only decks that can play black and want to do that are Twin and Abzan, with a mention to Gifts Ungiven if you count that. I tried him for a while in Scapeshift, and he just wasn't a fit because that deck has a very high difference between the power level of it's cards. When you want Scapeshift, your yard will be full of Search for Tomorrows, etc. You need a deck where all the cards are more value-based than linear.

InnerFlame Honestly, I'll jam anything into my burn deck. Literally. I'm greedy enough to play Geist with main colours R and G.
On the other hand, he works INCREDIBLY well in a control shell as a singleton, or 2 of. Control is an actual good home for Tasigur, rather than jamming him into burn. (Dude, it'll work eventually.)
