Temur Twin picks up 5th at SCG Premier IQ... It's not the build you think.

Check this out. There are some interesting picks in there. It also appears to be very capable of finishing the job without using the combo.

Just seems like RUG midrange more than anything else. Just runs a bunch of other creatures that are valid Twin targets unto themselves. Splinter Twin on Thragtusk? Yeah sure.
I mean the deck is playing 0 counter spells. It's operating on a completely different axis than regular RUG Twin.

I have no idea why were calling this deck a combo deck anymore, Twin is about as combo as pod was now. Which makes me look at this deck and just automatically assume that the pilot looks something like this...
All jokes aside, it looks like a solid midrange deck I guess? If I wanted to play a RUG midrange shell though I'd just play delver or RUG Vial.

What? Mizzium Mortars just seems like a bad Flame Slash in modern, I've only ever seen Thragtusk in an Amulet Bloom sideboard, 1 of Lotus Cobra is very strange, 5x Blood Moon seems bad because he is three color, i feel like Anger of the Gods and Pyroclasm are more efficient than Bonfire of the Damned, 1 Humble Defector is also wierd, he really only fits in as a 4-of in a more all in list, i like Sword of Fire and Ice, no Tarmogoyf in a rug twin list is very strange b/c that was originally the reason that was a thing, Huntmaster of the Fells Flip seems fine as another must-answer threat, ive played against someone on Sower of Temptation and it was ok, but it seems like theres better stuff to be doing at 4 mana, Cavern of Souls is very odd especially outside of a strict tribal deck like merfolk, or a deck like amulet bloom that need to resolve a Primeval Titan. I really cant argue cuz he placed very well but there are some odd choices

As it turns out, putting bunch of high-value spells into an already-established combo/tempo deck is decent.

And in the world of Modern, a resolved Thragtusk will roflstomp everything.

It doesn't need goyf, because it plays lotus cobra or clique turn 2. Also this deck is a giant clusterfuck

I love how we are all tearing this guys deck a new asshole but not keeping in mind that it took 5th at an IQ.
That's really good.
To be honest it's nice not to see a pure combo/control twin and to see a more midrangey twin that can win at all stages of the game. It seems to be well placed against Abzan and mirror matches.

Also, I'm interested in Cavern of Souls in your Bird Horror Cleric Human Rogue Werewolf Snake Faerie Wizard Beast Goblin Shaman deck. :)
I love this guy.

Ohthenoises clearly he knows what he is doing, but from someone on the outside looking in, it just looks very unorganized

This looks like it shifts into a beatdown deck surprisingly well. That's probably what took it through most of the IQ. The Cavern is an odd choice, but you can choose multiple creatures with multiple caverns, so... He'd probably choose Beast or Human or Fairy.

The deck really seems built to punish Abzan, too.

The novelty of Splinter Twining a Thragtusk will never be old to me.

Create a copy, gain life, attack with it, get a beast token. Rinse. Repeat.

And on top of all this, he's using temples. This guy is metagaming way too hard for any of us to understand.

This guy is either an insane mad genius far more intelligent than any of us could ever begin to imagine or half his deck is in the mail and he threw together what he could and won with insanely tight play. Im guessing the first one

Look at the rest of the tournament...everyone is either playing Burn, Infect, or Affinity. That explains why there's three Spellskite mainboard, Sower of Temptation, Mizzium Mortars, and all the random stuff in his sideboard.
He just metagamed really hard. It also could have been a really small event.

Scry Twin used to be a thing.
Filtering your draws can be super useful especially in the Combo shell. Jou just have to hope that you don't draw it as your Landdrop for turns 3-4.

rorofat SWAGtusk trades super well with Splurge Rhino.

Yeah, what the hell is that deck. That guy was really high on Standard two years ago.
