The End is Nigh For Modern

I recently watched T.C.G. play the new Neo Grisalbrand deck and I want to know how to beat this turn 2 B.S. before it makes it’s way to my L.G.S. and ruins it for everyone like Arclight Phoenix did.

decklist please

Spell Pierce . It's very good vs that stupidity, Phoenix, and Tron. And it's playable against everything else except humans.

Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek will also be amazing.

M_Malcom,
In addition to ToolmasterOfBrainerd's 'puts:

The nut draws are absolutely nutty, but the deck is inconsistent, doesn't mul' well (even with London mul'), and it's trivial for any color to hate out. "The End is Nigh For Modern" is a GROSS overstatement :-D

Hatebears in general if you’re running Spirit of the Labyrinth . Griseldad can’t draw them cards anymore and Cat Jesus says no library searching in the first place

That is the kind of budget stuff I’m looking for.

Uh, Arclight Phoenix, and Phoenix as a whole, is a fine and balanced deck for Modern. If it’s that impactful at your LGS, I’d suggest playing something like Whir Prison.

Neoform, on the other hand, may be pretty poor for the health of Modern. I don’t have a lot of recommendations beyond something like Thoughtseize , Spell Pierce , Grafdigger's Cage and winning the die roll.

My point was that arclight came out of left field and the guy that ran it went undefeated for like a month. Now neoform can win faster the a vintage deck and trounce over me with my $70 elf deck.

M_Malcom True, but any new deck will do well initially, assuming it’s doing something powerful, because it will take time for people to adapt to it. Arclight is still doing well now, but it’s win percentage has dropped from when it was first discovered.

It’s worth mentioning that Elves has traditionally had a poor matchup against combo decks. They don’t go fast enough, and don’t have the ability to sufficiently disrupt them before they go off. I agree that Neoform is probably a bit fast for Modern, but I don’t think we know that for certain yet. We also have Modern Horizons coming out very soon, which will probably shake up the meta.

If it becomes a serious problem, WOTC would have no problem banning Griselbrand in comparison to banning a card like Arclight Phoenix. Arclight Phoenix is busted but Griselbrand is straight broken. And they know it.

Any interaction really will work. Instant speed removal, Thoughtseize or any counterspell.

Is griselbrand really broken though?

Its nothing more than a big old flying demon, for a high price with a big body. However it doesn't do anything particularly unfair unless you cheat it down early (i mean early enough that you did not loose enouh life to prevent multiple activations in response to removal being cast on it)

Cast on curve its a far worse finisher than any dumb flying hexproof creature.

Phoenix (as it is) is faaar more broken as a card - it has a reanimation trigger that makes it ever present if you run enough lands and cards that cantrip. Its Bloodghast level "broken". An 8 mana flying, trample 7/7 is weak in itself, its simply too slow - and its ability does diddle against any deck that has any kind of agressive damage dealing plan if its cast on curve.
