The Fate of JTMS?
Modern forum

Greetings everyone, I now that Jace the Mind Sculpter has been around in Modern for a couple of months, what is everyone's thoughts on the future of JTMS?
Now to make a disclaimer, I am not looking for an absolute 100% answer, I just want everyone's personal opinion on it. Is it safe to stay or is it going to be banned again once M25 stops selling? I personally think that he's not the over performer he once was, still powerful, but meant to use to keep the board state locked, not as an unbeatable finisher. Would it be worth it to buy him if you only play in Modern? I would be very interested in hearing everyone's thoughts.
Jace? Overrated.
I mean it's a great card, but unbanning him certainly didn't change the face of Modern like everyone expected. And I like comparing him to Teferi, Hero of Dominaria. Since DOM came out, Jace has made 8x Top 8s at major events (e.g., SCG Baltimore, SCG Louisville, MKM Hamburg, and GP Toronto) and Teferi has made 6x. Not bad for a card that's less than half the price of a Jace :-)
Sorry, but I've no real idea if he's a good investment or not. The only thing I'd say is that, based on just the price curves on MTGstocks (e.g, this one), it looks like his price still has a little ways to fall before it flattens out.

Thanks everyone for your input, glad to see you guys share my views on it. I do 1 JTMS, and that is all I need, having more than 1 just clogs up space for other decent removal, imo.

Jace is awful in Modern. The hype was too much for Masters 25’s commercial.

Yeah new Teferi has a bigger impact on Modern than JTMS. Teferi is a hard card to beat once on board. It essentially does what JTMS does, just better(?)

Meta still pretty diverse, highly doubtful he’ll be banned.

The lowest I've seen of JTMS was around $80 price wise. Although he's still actually at $89. IMHO I think JTMS will possibly be staying stable at $80 eventually. I'm hoping for it to drop to $60 but having to see that it still sees some play in other formats, price may not go lower than $80, unless a JTMS suppressor kind of card gets reprinted. That'll shut it down not just modern but also in other formats, dropping its price. But I doubt WOTC will do such a bold move.

Now we have jace, can I get Stoneforge Mystic unbanned so I can shift the 200 copies I foolishly bought before the no ban modern?

I think Jace will stay around as a control 1 or 2 of main for a decent number of decks, but he's still more expensive than he needs to be for how much play he sees. If you play Modern control decks, I would consider picking up at least 1 Jace.
