I'm seeing a lot of this spell on xmage and wondering.... Y u no Through the BreachBlightsteel Colossus bro
tyforthevenom says... #3
I'm Not saying run it over emrakul I'm saying run it in tandem with the guy, 11 infect out of nowhere isn't something people expect from a deck that doesn't seem to be an infect deck

And both get shuffled after sacrifice unlike a certain flying 7/7 flier who is also in the list

Speaking about Iona? Osang is right, it is strictly worse in everyway than Emrakul.
January 25, 2015 4:11 a.m.
Griselbrand draws you almost half your deck, something Blightsteel Colossus is unable to do. Drawing those red spells to pitch for Fury of the Horde (Or searching for fury itself) to attack more, to draw more, to dig for the final points of damage. He keeps the flow of the deck going.
With the non-shuffling clause in Griselbrand, Goryo's Vengeance becomes a thing, as well.
Just because Blightsteel wins with Infect doesn't mean people will mistake the deck as Infect. Merely showing them Breach will enlighten them that you're running that specific deck.
There's a reason why both Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Griselbrand are the dynamic duo of reanimator, breach, and sneak and show. Noodles ends games while Brand keeps the combo going.

Hjaltrohir says... #7
Blightsteel Colossus just isn't as powerful and doesn't leave a lasting effect. Noodles kills stuff and Griselbrand draws you cards but if they are not killed by blightsteel then there is no lasting effect unless you have other ways to give poison counters

Ok, but no self respecting magic player would bother with picking the colossus if there's blockers, the only blockers a decent player would come against with the colossus is ones containing the word "flash"
January 25, 2015 4:27 a.m.
That's just Magical Christmas Land. Having Breach and a choice of a win condition in your hand? I'm sorry, but I'd rather run 4 Griselbrand and 4 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn to maximize the chances of using both. You can't just rely on getting perfect draws all the time, having the combo pieces and multiple threats in hand, especially with a deck with high variance like this one. No self-respecting reanimate/breach/sneak and show player would even consider running Blightsteel Colossus over the duo. It's really not that good.
The only thing Blightsteel Colossus is good at is getting Tinkered for on turn 1 Vintage.

Not to mentoon Blightsteel can be removed by Path or Swords.
January 25, 2015 4:38 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #13
Swords, in modern? Who's in magical Christmas land again?
January 25, 2015 4:42 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #14
Ease up, Osang mentioned sneak and show so my answer was attempting tobe a littlemore comprehensive than just Modern.
January 25, 2015 4:46 a.m.
It does not matter whether or not he said Swords to Plowshares. Blightsteel Colossus is still targetable by exile or bounce spot removal while Emrakul, the Aeons Torn cannot.
I can't grasp the fact that you seem to be especially stubborn about the fact that Blightsteel is really just not as good as you think it is.

In the modern format talk is of modern in legacy it's legacy
January 25, 2015 4:48 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #17
Emrakul gets bounced by Venser, Shaper Savant I'm not saying drop any threats merely suggesting an additional threat for the deck, it's far from "magical Christmas land" to have more than 1 threat from among 9+ threats in the deck is all I'm saying take it how you want
January 25, 2015 4:51 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #18
This deck happens to be a thing in legacy also, I was merely expanding my answer to provide a better idea that this card is simply worse than other options.
January 25, 2015 4:53 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #20
And he doesn't return a Breached in Emrakul. Only a casted one, which is irrelevant as they still get an extraturn.
January 25, 2015 4:56 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #21
He can return permanents, emrakul isn't able to prevent creature effects or even oblivion ring
January 25, 2015 5:10 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #22
And blue moon uses venser and expanding into legacy as you keep doing he's in miracles
January 25, 2015 5:11 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #23
Ok, You got me. But back to my first point. No one plays Venser.
January 25, 2015 5:12 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #24
Except blue moon and miracles and fringe play in jeskai control
January 25, 2015 5:13 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #25
Link to a Blue Moom deck that has done well with Venser? And a miracles deck that has?
UWR should not play him, It simply doesn't do enough at 4 mana.

I don't play much legacy but the idea that its a sideboard card makes me wonder how much he sided it in, and for what matchup.
January 25, 2015 5:21 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #29
Sneak and show, omni show, reanimator, jeskai combo, high tide, enchantress, anything unfair
January 25, 2015 5:26 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #30
At 4 mana surely there are better options. Id like to hear the players reasoning.
Regardless, Emrakul is still better.
January 25, 2015 5:28 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #31
4 mana, show and tell you pitch this and bounce whatever they pitch, also you're cont you got the mana but you won't always have the gas
January 25, 2015 5:31 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #32
Missed my point, Im surprised in legacy that they're isnt a better option.
You dont need to explain to me the utility of it.
January 25, 2015 5:36 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #33
What's better for dealing with emrakul in any format at 4 mana? That's a challenge fer you to figure out
January 25, 2015 5:40 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #34
Countering Through the Breach or Legacy equivalents? Venser is way to narrow?
January 25, 2015 5:50 a.m.
Hjaltrohir says... #36
Celestial Flare, Liliana of the Veil, Geth's Verdict, Supreme Verdict, Wrath of God, Path to Exile, it really isn't hard...
January 25, 2015 5:51 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #37
We're thinking blue decks not mardu bijschjdbcd no stopping emrakul or equivalent let's assume he gone got haste
January 25, 2015 5:53 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #39
Well it is a post about Blightsteel.
You dont have to care about Emrakul if they are trying to breach it in.
January 25, 2015 5:56 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #40
I just posted a challenge in reply to "I can believe legacy hasn't got something better than venser bla bla bla" find something better than venser to deal with this hypothetical hasted emrakul
January 25, 2015 6:01 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #42
You expect to always have karakas a card you run a maximum of 2 within your deck all the time? And what if they used Wasteland before putting emrakul down
January 25, 2015 6:08 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #43
You expect them to always have the combo? And I didn't think OmniTell or Sneak and Show ran Wasteland?
January 25, 2015 6:12 a.m.
julianjmoss says... #44
karakas is easy to find with crop rotation not to mention there are cards like knight of the reliquary. Also onmitell and sneak and show do not play wasteland. swords to plowshares also takes care of the colossus
January 25, 2015 6:16 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #45
I've seen a few running it as a precaution against karakas
January 25, 2015 6:16 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #46
This is why I dont play legacy...
Is has a stupid amount of variance, This is true for magic as a whole but not as much as in legacy.
January 25, 2015 6:22 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #47
I play a lot of legacy variety is spice and I'm a chilli handler who grows his own habanero peppers
January 25, 2015 6:24 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #48
Variance, Not variety, assuming you were implying the vast amount of decks.
I mean the fact that you can die on turn one randomly.
January 25, 2015 6:27 a.m.
tyforthevenom says... #49
A grand total of 3 decks do that and none consistently
January 25, 2015 6:29 a.m.
bijschjdbcd says... #50
I prefer interactive magic although I do understand why people like it.
Anyway this supposed to be about Modern, So let get the convo moved.
Osang says... #2
Because Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is better? Flying, Haste, Annihilator 6, and 15 power is better than a grounded Infect based dude that sticks for one turn. Any 2 toughness blocker can let them survive with one less permanent and 9 poison while Mr. Space Noodles here has flying and takes 6 permanents with it in the process.
