Tidebinder Mage in Modern

Modern forum

I'm putting together a Modern Merfolk deck (something pretty generic, like this one Merfolked), but I want to incorporate Tidebinder Mage into it, because it's an answer to Tarmogoyf , etc.

Would you sideboard him? How many? Or, do you think he's a total waste of time?

I have been playing around with him and it would depend on your build.

Show us your build and we can suggest. I have a flex slot in my deck where I can side out something like Coralhelm Commander and side in Tidebinde

I haven't put the deck together yet, but I would build around Tidebinder if need be. He was one of the few cards in M14 I was excited about, and I want to build some kind of Tidebinder deck, knowing he won't work in standard. I was just wondering how people would work him in to the one I linked to, because it's a pretty common Merfolk example.

Switching out Coralhelm Commander sounds like a plan though. Thanks!

He might be a good idea for a sideboard option for that Tarmogoyf /other stuff matchup, if he doesn't end up quite fitting with your deck and how it works.

He is good in the side, but actually I find myself preferring Shackles, especially in the 4 mutavault, 16 island version with out any land D. You can just go "Steal your dark confidant. Gain all the card advantage"
