Turn 1 infect win

Modern forum

I've been thinking for interesting ways for an infect deck to win as fast as possible and although this requires an immense amount of luck It would be the coolest thing ever to pull off!

Card you need:gemstone cavern

Leyline of Anticipation

Glistener Elf

Might of Old Krosa or Groundswell

Mutagenic Growth

So in order for this to work you HAVE to go second,if you drew gemstone cavern and Leyline of Sanctity put them on the field as soon as the game starts,on your opponents turn play Glistener Elf since the leyline gives your creatures flash and you have a luck counter on Gemstone Caverns,on your turn play a forest and cast 2 of either old krosas might or Groundswell and a Mutagenic Growth and as long as they have no blockers you will win on turn 1. I know this is not a reliable way to win but I thought it seemed fun.

you need the exact 8 cards to be forest, gemstone, mutagenic, 2 pumps, elf and leyline and any other card to exile to caverns. The chances of that are ass. I mean asstronomically low.

I know it will probably never happen,at least not outside of a casual game, but out of all the plays I could think of this seems to be the only way to win turn 1 with infect,or any other way in modern unless I just haven't looked deep enough.

Btw I realize I messed up and put leyline of sanctity instead of anticipation the second time lol

t1 on the play. exile 3 Simian Spirit Guide, use one mana to cast Faithless Looting, drawing and discarding Blightsteel Colossus and any other card.

4 cards left in hand and 2 red mana.

Cast 2 Desperate Ritual to go up to 4 red mana.

2 cards left in hand.

Use two mana for Manamorphose, making a green and a black and drawing a card. Cast Footsteps of the Goryo, returning blightsteel and use the last mana to cast Crimson Wisps and attack for all the infect damage.

I don't think it can get any more complicated, but there are multiple other t1 infect kills, though, like all non-Belcher t1 kills, they are extremely dumb.

Ah,nevermind then

But would that work Boza? I mean, Blightsteel Colossus doesn't go to your graveyard so how would you use Footsteps of the Goryo?

Not only that, but wouldn't you only be left with 3 cards in hand after 3 Simian Spirit Guide and a Faithless Looting? Maybe T1 on the draw, but definitely not on the play.

Oh well, i should read the cards. We still have a card left in hand and a mana left at the end of that sequence. Change the creature Doomgape for intimidation factor and let the card be Tainted Strike (we make two black with manamorphose then). The point should be turn that 1 kills are convuluted and unneccessary unless your deck is built to do that (Belcher).

T1 win is going to be so infrequent it'll never come off, unless you're solo playing and happen to get the right hand... casually it may be fun to make a deck that can do it but competitive is going to be really unreliable.

My infect deck can do a T2 win and it's more reliable as it only involves 4 cards, and still very hard to stop unless the opponent has a T1 creature or a 1-drop removal (not burn).

T1: Play any green mana source, Llanowar Wastes or Gilt-Leaf Palace revealing Glistener Elf so it comes in untapped, then play the Glistener Elf

T2: Play another green mana source, play Groundswell to make 5/5, play Giant Growth for 8/8, pay 2 life for Mutagenic Growth 10/10.

I think what seuvius suggested can't work since you don't cast lands and for this you can't get it into play with the Leyline and can't cast the elf.

You would need Elvish Spirit Guide for this to work.

No, Gemstone Caverns is put into play at the beginning of the game if you are playing second... So you can tap it for mana before your first turn...

This is a really dumb way of doing it haha, but all these cards do exist within a Kiln Fiend-combo style deck, so it is feasible!

Hand: 2x Simian Spirit Guide, Swamp, Monastery Swiftspear, Mutagenic Growth, Tainted Strike Assault Strobe.

Play swamp, exile one guide to play Monastery Swiftspear. Exile another guide to play Assault Strobe, then use the swamp to cast Tainted Strike and use life to cast the Mutagenic Growth. It should result in 7 double-strike infect damage, which ends up with a nice 14 poison counters for your friend. IS THERE ANYTHING SWIFTSPEAR CAN'T DO?

Chancellor of the Forge, 2x Chancellor of the Tangle, Swamp, 2x Groundswell, Tainted Strike. Turn 1 on the play, and there was a time when that was even Standard-legal.

There are multiple ways of performing it on the draw in a proper infect deck, but the chance of getting the perfect 8 cards are incredibly low. It wouldn't even be feasible in a casual game where you pick your starting hands. For example though:

Hand: 2x Chancellor of the Tangle, Simian Spirit Guide, Glistener Elf, Might of Old Krosa, Crimson Wisps, Assault Strobe, and you'd have to draw into a red land (alternately, have the land in hand and draw into spirit guide).

Chancellors give you 2 green mana at the beginning of the game. Use one for Glistener Elf and the other for Might of Old Krosa. Play the land, and use it to play Crimson Wisps. Exile the Simian Spirit Guide to play Assault Strobe, and swing for 10 poison counters.

Unfortunately, being on the draw will always mean that your opponent could already have a blocker on the field for you. I can't think of any way to get a turn 1 kill on the play with cards that would be found in a dedicated infect deck (so not regular haste creatures + Tainted Strike), unless we start thinking of Legacy and Vintage. In those formats, there are definitely ways to achieve it (mostly through the use of Invigorate).

Never mind, it is in fact possible to get a turn 1 kill on the play with an infect deck with the hand I just mentioned, but it means that the card you draw off Crimson Wisps (played with either the spirit guide or the land) HAS to be the other red source (either a spirit guide if land in hand first, or spirit guide/land if spirit guide in hand first).

That's a really cool way of doing it, but that first combo requires 10 cards, I can't see how it's possible on the first turn? Even the second one requires 9!

Explore and Crimson Wisps both say "Draw a card", so there's just enough room to squeeze them in on the draw. Note that in the first one, there's only one Gruul Turf in hand--it bounces itself, and the extra land drop from Explore is used to replay the same Gruul Turf a second time.

Not playing green? Boom, you lose! :D

Pair it with Sunder - everyone else loses! :D
