Viable twin replacement

Could a combination of MidnightGuard + Elemental Mastery or Intruder Alarm + Elemental Mastery and a creature serve as a viable twin replacement?

These combos would allow us a turn 4 infinite tokens with haste, and it fits in the american or classic twin shell.

Also even if we can make this combo as affective as twin, could it be banned since it is just as powerful? So would it even be worth investing in a deck around it.

The problem is that Midnight Guard does not have flash.

Yea that didn't ocur to me, it would be stronger then the combo with kiki, but is allot weeker without flash

do you really need a turn 4 combo? It is not like the deck is weaker, it's only a small part of its wins that are affected. CFB recently ran a test to see if the eldrazi deck could win vs twin and bloom. Eldrazi did not fare well.

Thus, just substitute your twins with kikijiki and just combo win one turn later. It is not like the t4 win is the main thing of the deck.

I think the t4 win is what gave it game against aggro. Helped to keep affinity in check. Holding off for 4 turns is just about doable, but 5 is a lot harder.

This new combo is doable but the American version of the deck does have finicky mana.

It's sad twin is gone though because as has been said it would have had at least a fine match up versus eldrazi and the deck did help to keep uninteractive, slow creature based decks in check.

Another problem is that twin ran more than 4 creatures that could combo. Increasing consistency. This new deck only has midnight guard as far as I'm aware. Obviously chance of drawing into something is less when you have 4 copies of it compared to having 6 or 8.

Well the combo also works with raise the alarm and another creature with mastery so as long as you have another creature on the field you have the same chance of pulling it off, the main problem I see is that its more fragile than twin

Then it's a 3 card combo, which again is statistically less likely to occur than a 2 card combo.

There's nothing that can match twins sheer consistency in this respect.

Thraben Doomsayer also works with alarm, but that still forces us to run 3 colors

That would give us 2, 2 card combos (one woth haste and one without and 1 3 card combos all capable of going off on turn 4

Every creature that is a token generator is infinite with Intruder Alarm. Best to go with hasty ones like Rakka Mar for a faster win.

No doubt, but you have to have mana to use his, so we'd need a mana dork, so that would make it a 3 card combo

February 18, 2016 9:56 a.m.

Doomslayer was the only one I could think of that didn't require mana as well

if u had a mana dork on t1, t2 you could counter something then t3 silence or something like it and guard.

Bring to Light kiki is good and can consistently t4 win... Turn 2 Sylvan Caryatid as a blocker/ramp, eot Restoration Angel into either kiki or BTL...

Why not just play a twin deck but instead of twin just use elemental mastery

rorofat says... #17

shadow63 it doesn't go infinite.

Well youd replace the combo pieces from twin with this new combo, its just a matter of finding the right ratio of the new pieces

I've heard tell of UR/x shells going to Through the Breach + Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and using See Beyond for ditching multiple Emrakuls without losing out on snapcaster value

hmmm i think i have it. what about a deck that uses only counters, mana, and emrakuls. twin with no combo

Polymorph + Lingering Souls and/or Midnight Haunting + Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in a UW shell. Turn 4 Combo.

Through the breach is the best way to do it. The decks fine. Not amazing.
