what are some options for my first modern deck?

So, my buddy and I have thought about putting together modern decks. Basically just so we can say we have one. We never really got into modern when we got back into magic a year ago because there wasn't really anywhere for us to play. Basically we could play each other and that was it, but there are more and more people that are getting into modern around here now.
I would like to put together a deck just so I can mix up games and decks a little when I play. I think I'd like to either Golgari, Abzan, or Jund. I have things like Abrupt Decay, Scavenging Ooze, Thoughtseize, Lotleth Troll shocks, and some other stuff so these are reasons I'm leaning toward something in those color pairings. What would a decent deck that I could incorporate these cards in without having to invest a ton into other cards? Since I just got back into magic most of my collection is from RtR block till current so I don't have lots of modern staples just sitting around.
Sounds like Dredgevine fits the bill. Doesn't need Tarmogoyf and Dark Confidant, needs what you have, and sometimes splashes for Lightning Bolt and other red spells. Jund also recently got two Fetchlands in Khans, so that's always good for your pocket and for fetches (Bloodstained Mire and Wooded Foothills I believe).
Don't know too many primers or tips on how to play the deck though, I'm just familiar with the archetype.
Pod is probably a good Abzan option, but Noble Hierarch.

Hmmm... seems interesting. Any other idea you can think of?

Melira Pod may fit the bill. If you can get Noble Hierarch and the on-color fetchlands (Windswept Heath is cheap right now), then you already have a large part of the deck.

Oh wow... yeah I don't think I'll be playing anything with noble heirarch in it right now. Was just looking for something I could throw together for those times in between edh games. Right now I only have standard and edh decks because what little I have of my old collection is pre modern and like I said before all my newer stuff is return to ravnica or newer pretty much. Acquiring some cards is do able but I really won't have a ton of opportunities to play so I don't want to invest to much right now. I just know I have some pretty good starting pieces so looking for help adding to it.

If you already have a lot of the value cards, go Abzan. It's the best B/G/x deck at the moment.

I've been using this lately.
U could easily throw ScOoze into it...
It'll really reward you for learning match ups...

abenz419 There's Abzan Pod, but it's incredibly hard to play. There's also straight up Abzan, which is the current good attrition based deck. You can find a lot of lists online, but for the best advice, Willy Edel is the man to listen to.

@abenz419 Learning things on your own is sometimes very useful.

no one said i'm not learning things on my own, but that doesn't mean learning at least one abzan deck's name so I have somewhere to start is a bad thing. It's not like I'm looking to net deck the best deck out there. I'm just trying to get information so I can look into different ideas and figure out what I want to do.

Sorry, not trying to start a fight here. Just saying that it's important to make sure you can figure things out on your own. Finding what Abzan decks are popular should be something you take upon yourself to do.

It's hard to play green with no Tarmogoyf and hard to play black with no bob. (Midrange)
