What happened while I was gone?

Modern forum

Posted on June 5, 2015, 11:36 a.m. by InnerFlame

Due to school, money, and a take over of my life, I decided to step away from magic 2 months ago. Now that I'm back I noticed modern has changed quite a bit. What have I missed? For instance, elves is a thing in modern now? How did that happen?

Collected Company happened. Apart from that, it's pretty similar, just the decks that were ruling a few months ago are slowly coming down (Junk, Burn). They're still top of the table, but not by the margin that they used to be. Elves and Melira podless pod (using Collected Company) are now things, but they're not big things.

Also, probably wrong forum. Epochalyptik

People have figured out again that pro tour results don't mean everything. Bloom titan and infect are bad again, and as stated, people really like the text printed on Collected Company.

Yea Collected company seems really good, especially in a deck that spits out minis that make mana lol. Yeah this is the wrong forum FAMOUSWATERMELON. The last time I was on here there was just a "Modern" forum. Not a "Modern Deck Help" forum. I saw modern and clicked it haha.

Delver, Burn, Affinity, and BG/x are still Tier 1.

Green got decent card draw in Collected Company which has made "podless pod" a deck. Its basically collected company with the combo pieces from pod. The card has also greatly helped elves etc.

Not much changed.

I just played against a melira deck with my jund, won 2-1. It's very strong when it draws Collected Company(that's how I lost) but without coco or a great nut draw, it's pretty weak to removal

It does just die to instant speed removal also. Like folds to it almost completely.

Should be noted that Jund is on the rise

BG/x has always been the best deck in modern and anyone that denies that is lying to themselves.

Sorry not sorry.

I agree with Chief as a former Jund-ite lol. Bob + Goyf + Liliana = life.

And that's when I come in with 4C Cruel Control XD

From a competitive numbers standpoint, that is correct.

When did Jund fall?

After the Bloodbraid Elf ban then again after the Deathrite Shaman ban.

And I played during both eras.... I just got fed up with my deck getting smacked around by the ban hammer, shook my confidence in WoTC so I took the deck apart.

I think both bannings are appropriate, tbh. DRS is far too strong for modern. He sees play as a 4 of in legacy. Shardless BUG in particular loves him.

BBE however wouldn't be too powerful if it weren't for Lili of the Veil. Cascading into her is just too powerful.

A 3/2 hasty is not too overcosted at 4. That's limited playable. But when it can pull out a free lili, that's an issue.

I hate text with it's infinite loss of sarcasm.

@Serendipitous I very much agree on DRS. Thats fine and I can live with that, but BBE was never the offending player in the deck. DRS was the enabler that made BBE cascading into Liliana way more powerful because it could happen a full turn earlier. Or it got a goyf. Or Bob. Or a removal spell. It ALMOST didn't matter what you hit When Bloodbraid came down turn 3, it was bound to be more cards than you could readily handle like 7 times out of 10.
