What if... (Ban Topic)

Modern forum

Now, this is mainly aimed towards Blue Players, but I'm also curious on what Non-Blue Players think about going up against it.

In my meta, people are talking about how Jace, the Mind Sculptor got banned too soon, so people couldn't exactly tell what impact he'd have on the format.

I know the Ban List is only two days away, but I'm just thinking about what I'm almost certain won't happen...

What if they Banned Snapcaster Mage , and Un-Banned Jace, the Mind Sculptor ?

How would you feel about playing it? How would you feel about playing against it?

As a non-blue player, that'd suck for Jace to some back, he's just too overpowered

No, just no.

Haha, I assumed that'd be most people's opinions. The guys brought up some decent points, I'm just curious as to what everyone else thought about it.

I don't think it will be this year or the next. But wizards is adding in more and more planeswalker hate each set. With enough planeswalker hate available we could possibly see his power level be reduced.

You have a good point, kintighd, I guess after a bit of time, Jace would still be good, but less feared.

Snapcaster banning wouldnt do anything. Snap is a very good card perhaps a little overpowered. But DRS and Scooze do plenty to limit its success and isn't really oppressive.

I am a blue player and as much as id like to see JTMS unbanned hes just far to good.

I give it a minimum of two more blocks before this topic is actually viable, especially with all the planeswalker hate that is being printed

What if?

My Jace would be worth a lot of money and I'd trade that sucker off for more goodies.

I've only seen Jace played in Legacy tournament coverage, and in LEGACY it seems like if he lands then he wins the game unless the other person has some sort of amazing planeswalker hate in hand and enough countermagic to stick it. He just takes over the game too hard.

Honestly, I don't see JTMS returning yet, but I agree with blackmarker90: with all the planes walker hate being printed he'll possibly return in a couple of blocks. Nowadays, he's still too powerful.

OTOH, I don't see Snapcaster Mage being banned. It's a powerful card, but there are a lot of ways to deal with it. I see one of those ways being banned though :) Deathrite Shaman is too powerful for just one mana IMO.

I honestly believe Deathrite Shaman is getting the boot as well..

I'm happy if he is honestly, I have to play around him too often playing with my Snapcaster Mage s... But that's just me being pretty biased

Jace, the Mind Sculptor will never be unbanned in Modern, at least in my opinion. Yeah, there's some Planeswalker hate, but how often do cards like Hero's Downfall and Dreadbore get played in the top tiers of Modern? Not very much, quite frankly. Even if those cards were used in Modern, there's nothing you can do to stop Jace using one of 3 options straight away. Also, note that Jace is blue. Blue has answers to all your Planeswalker hate. Using the same logic, no creatures should ever be banned because there's loads of removal running around. Hey, Abrupt Decay , Terminate , Lightning Bolt and Maelstrom Pulse exist, so Stoneforge Mystic should also be unbanned! The whole "Planeswalker hate exists, so Jace is balanced" argument holds about the same weight as the "it's bad because it dies to removal" argument.

Honestly, I completely understand where you're coming from TitansFTW. I don't think bringing back Jace is a great idea, but I had the thought and wanted to ask the community, haha. Although, I think they were talking about it planeswalker hate had more options. I thought jund was running Hero's Downfall as a 1-of now though?

Also, I think i'm one of the few that agrees with you on Stoneforge Mystic being unbanned. People are talking about how broke getting an early Batterskull is, and frankly I kind of agree with them, but it's not like there aren't any answers there as well. (although I would totally be the guy playing G/W Vial, flash in a Stoneforge Mystic T-3, Drop Batterskull or a Sword the next turn, and wreck shop... So maybe I'm biased)*

What do you think about Bitterblossom or Wild Nacatl being unbanned?

Bitterbossom would be interesting, I picked four up for legacy semi-recently. Wild nacati should be unbanned though.

In my opinion, everything on the ban list is there for good reason. Wild Nacatl would push Zoo so far over the edge. If Wizards ever printed a 1 mana 3/3 vanilla, everyone would be going on about how broken it is. That's basically what Wild Nacatl is; a 1 mana 3/3. The same goes for Bitterblossom ; it would push Faeries over the edge.

Three-Left-Feet I think you misunderstood me. I don't want Stoneforge Mystic unbanned. I was being sarcastic.

Well that's embarrassing..

Honestly, save for fact how events are handled, playtesting and junk, i think ban season should be twice a year and not just one. Though it would turn into a case of a lot of bans being made that need not be banned, like a few other games I know.
