What is the "best" way to Turbofog in 2022?

Turbofog is a deck that has been on my mind lately; and have been wondering what the best way to play the deck is these days.

I first got turned on to this playstyle utilizing Isochron Scepter with spell package of Dawn Charm/Angel's Grace and good ol' Wrath of God to eventually get into a win condition of choice like Hoofprints of the Stag/Luminarch Ascension...Then I started researching some more recent deck lists and saw some new ways to play the deck using creature recursion through Abiding Grace, Ranger-Captain of Eos, Spore Frog/Kami of False Hope...

It seems very interesting and the lifegain seems like it can be a huge boon for the deck in some matches. I am wondering if anyone has piloted Turbofog anytime recently and had any input on this subject because I haven't touched the deck since like 2015.

I was on a little Turbofog kick early last year, and an enchantment deck using Solitary Confinement and Sythis, Harvest's Hand did reasonably well. It's not a Turbofog in the purest sense, but it accomplishes much of the same result. This is the sort of deck I used as a template.

(I believe it was wallisface who pointed me in this direction, but I can't find the thread. If it was, thanks! If not, I apologize, and thank you to whoever it was.)

Sounds like something i’d suggest, i’ll happily take credit for it ;)

But yeah, i’d suggest going down the enchantress route, of if you want to stick specifically to turbofrog then there’s options to do that in MaytrProc decks with Kami of False Hope and recursion

Here’s an example Martyr Proc list which can pretty reliably fish-up its one copy of Kami of False Hope and then recur it indefinitely to never take damage. Note the deck plays with a lot of toolboxy options so isn’t confined to this one strategy

^ this is probably far from the most efficient version of the deck, its just the first reasonable one I googled. Personally i’d be ditching the Urza’s Sagas and Yorion, to get down to a more reliable/focused 60.

There was a thread on this topic a few months ago. I've always liked the Isochron Scepter path myself. Things like Pollen Lullaby / Blessed Respite / Dawn Charm where you do more than just the fog effect. You can always run cantrips like Manamorphose as well, to make more value out of your scepters.

nbarry223 That's the thread I was looking for! Thanks!

And credit to TriusMalarky for the Solitary Confinement suggestion. Thank you!

I've never heard of the Solitary Confinement route before. That sounds cruel XD

Just drop a Sterling Grove and we're good I guess. Lol

I don't know how the new list looks, but I had fun running Destiny Spinner and Sigil of the Empty Throne as win cons in enchantress. All non-land cards were enchantments, so it made Solitary Confinement easy to upkeep.

lol yup legendofa you did apparently have the fog itch awhile back and I commented on that thread too lol. The Solitary Confinement route really seems unique/fun/risky to build around (I love it)... and Martyr of Sands just seems genius wallisface THE CONCEPT OF That build looks neat!

I think I agree with nbarry223 with taking a liking to the scepter/spell route...the utility of spells like Blessed Respite/Dawn Charm have a lot of appeal to me... but i could just be having a case of "the grass is greener on the other side" going on because I own all to 1-2mv/cmc spells i could want for Isochron Scepter but tempted by the new hotness that Abiding Grace offers but im not exactly sure if its "better" or not.

A word of advise against Isochron Scepter, is that there are a LOT of mainboard cards that can deal with it - Prismatic Ending, March of Otherworldly Light, Boseiju, Who Endures, Teferi, Time Raveler… and then there’ll be even more hate pieces post-sideboard. Hate against Scepter is particularly miserable because it’s basically a free 2-for-1 for the opponent, which will set you faaar more behind than if they’d targeted anything else

I agree with that.

If you just don’t want to die, and that can be considered a turbo-fog, there’s also lots of immortality options, where you replace damage (Worship being my favorite).

I personally wouldn’t consider that fog, but some people might. There’s also the Pariah route where you redirect damage to something that just doesn’t die.

i totally count/consider Worship and all means of play that facilitate it as strategy to be "Turbofog"... I have always wanted to build around Pariah and Kiora, the Crashing Wave's +1 lol

i was using turbo fog with snow lands and Marit Lage's Slumber to make the 20/20
