Like the title says, what makes Eidolon of the Great Revel good in modern RDW? It seems fairly counter productive in a deck where most of your deck is < 3CMC .

In a format where most of your opponent's cards also cost 3 or less, and you want them dead by next turn, it's awesome. Especially when you dont care about your life total.

RDW loses because it runs out of fuel or relevant cards, not because it has no life. The archetype is perfectly fine with paying RR for 2 to 4 damage and a relevant body while taking 4 from it yourself.

If all your spells deal 2 to you, but 3 to the opponent, while all the the opponent's spells deal 2 to them but 0 to you, you are very likely to win.

I swear this question is asked once every few weeks. There is a search bar in the top right: please use it (not being aggressive, trying to be helpful).

The too long; didn't read is that basically you kill the opponent faster than they kill you.

You are not alone. Chief had to explain it for me, too :)

Another point, is that your spells are dealing more damage than you are taking. Lightning Bolt, Lava Spike, Lightning Helix, Searing Blaze (with landfall), Boros Charm, and Rift Bolt all deal more damage than you take with Eidolon of the Great Revel in play.

Also take into account that the Eidolon is also attacking for 2 each turn. And if your opponent is also casting spells with CMC <=3, then it's like he's getting extra attacks each turn .
