simply said i know nothing of the modern format.(normally play standard) but id like to build a deck for it since the shop i do visit holds modern one time a month. i personally prefer control but have no idea where to start with it. i have a descent amount of cards(not tons nor anything from before scars of mirrodin)
You could make a budget teachings deck like my Budget Esper Teachings for as little as $100 with no fetchlands, which would be good for you since your cards start at Scars of Mirrodin. However, the premier control deck of the format is UWR control/flash, similar to standard. It uses burn spells like Lightning Bolt and Lightning Helix and cheap removal like Path to Exile to compensate for the lack of good cheap counterspells in Modern. It runs Mana Leak , Spell Snare and Cryptic Command as its counterspell suite, and combines it all with Wrath effects like Supreme Verdict and a couple of decent win conditions like Ajani Vengeant and Celestial Colonnade .
As far as combo-control, you could look into RUG Scapeshift, which runs Remand instead of Mana Leak since all it needs to do is buy time to cast Scapeshift with 7 lands out and find six mountains or red shocklands plus Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle to deal 18 damage to the opponent's face.

Both versions of Tron are great for control as well. There's R/GTron which mostly utilizes Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Karn Liberated for their wins and there's also UTron like my wife's I Fight For the Users! which uses Mindslaver with the backup of counter magic.
I will say though, R/GTron has much less of a "control" feel to it. More like midrange, but hey.

check out my Modern Caws deck. This is pretty much a set up early and control out set up. I know you won't have a lot of the cards to mimic the deck but that is what a control-ish type deck will look like. Instead of late game bombs its early-mid game ones
