I'm trying to decide which spell I should run to control my opponents creatures. What I'm considering right now is Control Magic, Threads of Disloyalty, Vedalken Shackles, and Sower of Temptation. What do you think is better and why?

Threads of Disloyalty dies to Abrupt Decay which is common in BGx decks, so you want Sower of Temptation there. It was good at stealing Pod creatures, but now that that's gone, there's really not much you can safely take without having Threads wasted.
Sower of Temptation is bad against Bolt, but you can run multiples well, and it attacks.

the blue moon deck with shackles was so dumb. There are times when shackles is better than threads and threads is better than shackles. I have seen sower very rarely and its not that good. If you are running predominantly islands than shackles is good but if youre playing a 3-color control deck (Murica', grixis, BUG, etc.) you want threads

Depends on the deck. All the heavy multicolor control decks (4-Color Gifts, Esper, Jeskai, Grixis, and Sultai) usually prefer Threads, but in the decks like UR Control, Mono-Blue Tron (sometimes, though some lists have lots of nonbasics), and UW Control, Shackles and Threads are about on par.

Control Magic isn't modern legal so the best one is threads, followed by shackles, followed by sower
Threads hits almost everything, most importantly goyfs and pyromancers. Stuff that threatens to out tempo you. Not really the most ideal in a format full of abrupt decay but it is what it is. Shackles is island dependent and for this reason falls behind threads. Sower is the easiest to remove of the 3 and thus comes last.
