Why is Naya burn the best?
Modern forum

I'm currently running GR burn, and everybody seems to be hopping on the Naya train. How come? Why are Boros Charm and Lightning Helix so good? Is it worth the money to splash white and green mainboard at the same time?
I'm just confused (as burn players tend to be 90% of the time)
Well I am not a burn player but I imagine gaining life is always useful from Lightning Helix but you might not care about your life. Boros Charm can hit for 4, protect a creature from bolt, and if your prowess is high enough give swiftspear doublestrike which could be great. Those seem like good reasons to me. Also sb Wear / Tear

I haven't tried green, but mine has always had a splash of white. Boros Charm is good because it's either 4 damage or a chance to give your creatures double strike for 2 mana, Lightning Helix is good because it's a 6-life swing for 2 mana.
I haven't tried splashing green in my burn deck and probably won't in that particular deck, but I'm considering building a new burn deck that I'll try either RG or RGW in.

Naya Burn has access to all the good stuff.
is all the burn spells
is for Boros Charm, Lightning Helix and amazing sideboard options
is for Atarka's Command, Destructive Revelry and sometimes other sideboard options, but mainly just those 2.
You could add black, but all that does is give access to Tasigur.
Blue was used for Cruise, but that got banned. Green takes its place well.

Just a small correction, black was first used for Bump in the Night which was Lava Spike 5-8

VampireArmy Bump in the Night actually just does nothing to improve the deck. You're adding another colour to hurt yourself.

JexInfinite, well way back when, Black was added for DRS. Some people still ran it for the Bump in the Night's because having 8 Lava Spikes was very good. Adding the 3rd color to RDW didn't hurt it much and was worth it for Bump.

As JexInfinite mentioned aside from the obvious burn spells, you get to sideboard Kor Firewalker for the mirror if nothing else. Path to Exile and Stony Silence have sideboard potential as well, maybe Rest in Peace if your meta is weird.

I rather have Bump over Helix. Bump is cheaper and works better with M.Bison. Only downfall is expecting 3 lands won't always happen & the speed.
The life gain on helix is irrelevant most of the time I think Skullcrack is the better choice.

before Atarka's Command wasnt it boros burn? and now splashing green for the command? I dont remember white being a recently added color, more like green...

Boros Charm is too good not to play, and Burn needs a second color to get rid of Leylines and stuff. Green has seen a rise in play due to Atarka's Command being a non-targeted Skullcrack and Destructive Revelry being an all-star sideboard card, but honestly, I still think both R/G burn and R/W burn are better than R/G/W burn. Adding a second color to what used to be a mono deck was a great idea, but adding a third color isn't worth the hassle, IMO.

APPLE01DOJ the lifegain from Lightning Helix helps make that a 6 point swing for two, at instant speed and can target creatures with the damage.. it just does things that Bump in the Night can't.

As it should for an extra mana that's like comparing Atarka's Command with Bump in the Night ...though Atarka's Command does things Lightning Helix can't at the same cmc. (& vise versa)...see how irrelevant your point is?
With bump you're doing 3 damage for 1 mana with helix you're doing 3 damage for 2 mana.

Lightning Helix has been one of the most influential burn spells in the format due to the life swing. Three damage seems like a bad ratio for two mana, but it is the same idea as Siege Rhino and almost exactly the reason why Siege Rhino sees play. You swing the life totals by six, the most of any burn spell played in Modern.
Burn needs to be fast but any bit of extra life they can give themselves (partly due to Eidolon of the Great Revel's self-burn) is not seen as bad.

With burn being as popular as it is, I think having access to Lightning Helix is huge for the mirror match.

APPLE01DOJ My point is very relevant as I was responding to your mention of choosing Bump in the Night over Lightning Helix because the "lifegain is irrelevant most of the time". You may have not liked my point being contradictory to yours but that does not limit it's relevance.
As for Atarka's Command, you're right.. it does things that helix can't and vice versa which is why they will almost always be better options than bump

Yea I wish tappedout had an edit button, I realized like 2 seconds afterword how much of an ass I sounded like, it simply came down to us as players valuing life differently.

White is for charm and way better side board options. However DO NOT play kor firewalker. By the time you cast it your taking at least 2 more damage than your opponent trying to get . Which might not seem like a lot but in the mirror it is.

I've said it once and I'll say it a million times more - Dragon's Claw > Kor Firewalker. At least for Round 2. They won't side in artifact hate in the mirror and if you drop it turn 2 you'll catch them off guard and win. Game 3, if they go for the sideboard, that's good for you, they're running a very conditional hate spell against your sideboard tech and if you wanna be really sneaky you could try siding them out to see where it gets you.

That's not true, I'd expect Dragon's Claw and would side it in game 2. That specific hate as you say also hits Eidolon of the Great Revel which no one will side out it'll always have a worthy target.

I know nothing about the meta, but Lightning Helix has traditionally seen play because it's 2 mana for a 6-life swing.
