Wind Zendikon in Jeskai

Modern forum

So I was looking to build a Modern Jeskai Ascendancy combo deck and I thought that Faerie Conclave is a little underwhelming since it is slow mana. I saw lists in Legacy that replaced it with Wind Zendikon. The zendikon only costs one mana, the land will be a creature so it can untap on the Ascendency trigger (on a shock land you can even vary the color of mana you create). But of course, the zendikon can be countered, which is a real downside. Still, do you guys think it can work in modern?

I think the reason for the conclave is that it doesn't take a card slot to add them since they are part of the land base. Legacy worries less about dead card slots because it has things like brainstorm to help in that regard.

Give it a shot. See if it works for you.

the legacy version uses it because of speed. I think the modern needs the protection of the conclave being a land until its needed over speed but thats just me

Test it out. Wind Zendikon is better in Legacy, because animating a manland can sometimes be risky, especially with better removal (mostly Wasteland) in the format. Putting a recurring enchantment on a dual land is much safer. In Modern, the Conclave is a lot safer, so long as you can evade Tectonic Edge.

I think both are viable options, but Conclave allows you to have more useful cards in your deck. It's worth doing intensive testing, though.

Big difference: Zendikon dies to Abrupt Decay, Conclave does not
