Would you guys say UWR Control is a thing in the current meta?

Ever since I saw Shahar Shenhar (Piloting UWR Control) defeat Reid Duke (Piloting G/W Hexproof) for the world championship, I've wanted to play this list. However, considering how much Modern has changed in the past few months, I don't know how viable the strategy is anymore.
Control is pretty poorly positioned. If you want to have a more competitive deck but still enjoy the grindy game, go for abzan. Those decks tend to be attrition-based, resilient, flexible powerhouses. They'll give you a similar feel when playing. Still, that list isn't bad.
I'd advise running a split of 2 Supreme Verdict and one Wrath of God as the decks that care about verdict that have counterspells are few and far between while creature-based decks can still pack a Thrun, the Last Troll.

Also, should probably be in deck help, just saying.

UWR is definitely a thing. It just hasn't performed that well the last couple months. You can probably tweak that list a little bit and still be fairly competitive at the FNM level. Unfortunately, with all the Abzan running around, UWR just isn't great at the higher competitive levels. But honestly, it will probably change again in the coming months. If you're looking at this from an investment standpoint, I wouldn't say its a bad idea to invest in UWR staples. The deck tends to fluctuate in terms of viability based on the meta, but it definitely isn't going away completely any time soon.

Run American with Goyfs.
If you build Abzan I recommend 4x Noble Hierarch. T2 Liliana of the Veil is so powerful. ...even worth it to run Birds of Paradise in its place.

@vishnarg: I think Esper has a lot of potential, but I haven't really seen a successful competitive list. Have you?

It's a self-fulfilling porphecy. People think that since control isn't putting up good results, it must be bad, so they don't play it. If they did play it, they would find that it's still a strong option for the format, as long as you understand the format, and your 75 perfectly.
APPLE01DOJ Actually, that doesn't seem like a bad idea. Green is pretty good at the moment, and I definitely think you could work with Goyfs.

Simply put, pure control decks are having a very hard time in the current meta. Now that doesn't mean the the list isn't good, but that combo/control decks have a more flexible game plan and therefore more chances of winning right now. Don't let me put you down though, it's still fun to be a jerk :)
