Just speculation but here's what I'm thinking.
We know MTG is hurting after the 30th Anniversary fiasco. We also know they are pushing massive amounts of product now.
Doesn't surprise me they want to pick up formats.
Come on, Planeschase cards AND Oathbreaker? They're looking to diversify their market more.
Given that, I'd expect to see officially printed Oathbreaker precons. Probably precons that feature existing Planeswalkers and Signature Spells at first with new artwork, and eventually new ones entirely. Like how they'll do those little precon kits where it's a new Commander and 99 reprints.
Unfortunately I think the market will reject them. If the format wasn't organic enough to stand on its own merit, it won't stand even with corporate push.

In oathbreakers defense for its lack of popularity... it came out or at least started to get attention from big Youtubers right around/between the launch of MTG Arena and the set release of War of the spark...and the pandemic hit right afterwards.
Between being overshadowed and then outright smothered by people being unable to get together to play at LGS or even casually it was a rough/unfair beginning.

Can someone give an Old(tm) the TLDR on what oathbreaker is? Commander with different hand sizes? Decks split into land and non-land shuffled piles? You get a legendary commander and an artifact? Fill me in, fellow kids.

Link explains but essentially Commander with Planeswalkers. You get a 60 card deck, and a secondary "commander" spell called a signature spell, which is an instant or sorcery.
Your color identity for the deck is determined by your Planeswalker, and the signature spell must be within their identity.
Signature spells are subject to Commander tax all the same.
Otherwise it's the same style as Commander.

I couldnt find the original video made by the format creators but The Profs vid is certainly pleasant to watch... especially for people like myself who struggle with taking in new information via reading.... Youtube is just amazing in that aspect.

I never got into this format but it does seem like one I would enjoy. Maybe now I can stop asking my Rule 0 planeswalker commander questions. lol
For anyone who has played it, how do multiplayer games tend to play out?

My experience is just too shallow to give an honest opinion... kinda a "wild west" experience...I was playing with Tamiyo, the Moon Sage with Familiar's Ruse for my signature spell in a ninjutsu themed deck... basically just a thrown together decklist that i had from building several variations of Mono Blue ninja decks I had...
I thought it was fun but I have heard/read nightmare stories from others.... just like any other format there are people who wanna have fun and then there are people who wanna "have fun."

I ran Kiora, Master of the Depths and Karn's Temporal Sundering.
Sundering is normally exiled, but as a Signature Spell, it went to the Command Zone.
With Kiora, untapping Gaea's Cradle or Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or a few others it became insanely devastating. I could literally loop endless amounts of turns together, and exile permanents my opponent controls with each passing. Then Kiora even has a built in wincon with her ultimate.

Woot! Granted I think the format has balance issues (personally) but I think its overall a great format that deserves more attention.
