good deck for the meta?

Pauper forum

Hey all, I am adventuring into pauper for the first time in paper soon, and I am having a hard time picking a good deck for my meta, and since most of my friends are playing competitively, I want to be able to put up the best fight I can.

Here's the meta:- Affinity- UB Chittering control- WB Pestilence- Burn- Kuldotha boros- Bogles

I want to make a deck that has a generally positive matchup against this meta. my general thought is tron, but I want some experienced players to weigh in. Can you guys help out a new player?

All of those decks die to cars draw and discard effects. Ive played most of them, minus boros. Id suggest something like teachigs or murasa tron. Ub teachings is much less expensive, and is still very fun if you enjoy control. If you like something more aggro oriented, id suggest ub delver fiend, which runs edicts for bogles, and fast creatures, disruption and sb counterspells.

malfeischylde, I do enjoy control style decks, and tried dinrova tron and rug tron, and found them to be very similar, how is marusa tron different from those variations? Also where could I find a good list for ub teachings

Murasa tron creates a circular loop using Pulse of Murasa, Mnemonic Wall, Ghostly Flicker, and Mulldrifter. The kill con is either Dinrova Horror, which can also be flickered, mulldrifters, and Rolling Thunder or Kaervek's Torch.

A good deck to deal with all of this would be a Midrange deck that can take care of threats early and have big threats for the control decks.

I would recommend UB Delver - you have the control and interaction to deal with aggressive threats and Gurmag Angler and delver tempo plan vs control decks.

malfeischylde, how does the loop work with pulse? Doesn't it only work with an evoked mulldrifter? I get the combo with mulldrifter and mnemonic wall + ghostly flicker, but pulse doesn't seem to fit in.

Pulse buys back lands, creatures and occasionally walls from the yard. Sometimes they die, sometimes theyre dumped by forbidden alchemy. Also the lifegain is real.

malfeischylde: Ok, so it's not really a loop, just a really efficient spell? Its effect of buying back lands is really helpful though against decks like pestilence that run land destruction in the sideboard. is it reasonable to add a copy in the SB to account for that?

I dont want to be "boring", but good old fashioned burn is tough to stop. The decks that are just insane use burn spells such as Lightning Bolt, Lava Spike, Rift Bolt, Magma Jet, Goblin Grenade and Thunderous Wrath supported by creatures such as Keldon Marauders, Firebrand Archer and Thermo-Alchemist. Sideboard options are also simple for a deck like this, just sub in graveyard and artifact hate and you are good to go.

antacidbrn, don't worry about being boring, I play dinrova tron currently, talk about boring XD. I'll give burn a try though, thanks!

Yes there is a deck called "8 Alchemists" that is pauper legal and basically burbs with the best of them. Build a shell around 4x Firebrand Archer and 4x Thermo-Alchemist and every burn spell counts for even more damage.

Needle Drop is especially good in the deck to keep the burn spells flowing. I also find control players lose the race because they have expensive counterspells and the burn player has mostly 1 drops.
