Working on a deck based around pairing Obsidian Acolyte with Pestilence and Crypt Rats. I've got most of the deck but it currently has five open slots in the main board so I'm looking for suggestions on what to fill those slots with. The deck is Pestilent Acolyte.

Boza the Acolyte has protection from black so he doesn't die to Pestilence (meaning I won't have to sack Pestilence after wiping the board with it) and can even prevent Rats from killing itself so it's pretty important to the decks overall game plan. I like the Merchants, maybe run two?

Is it worth it though? You need oodles of black mana for the pest and the rats, so ruining your mana base with white better be worth it. You can achieve the exact effect and more with 4 Undying Evil and 1 Grim Harvest. You get a heavier devoton theme and are able to maximize rats and pest.

Boza it makes for a slightly faster clock and I can run duel lands so I don't end up short on black mana. Gonna definitely try Harvest as a one of and two Merchants leaving two slots open.

Well, I would say not a bad idea, but try some different creatures. Acolyte is not really a very good dude and as it stands, it can protect your 1/1 deathtouchers from damage, which is far from effcient.
Both rats and pestillence are essentially the same thing and require oodles of black mana.
If you want to splash white, try getting it for Wall of Hope, which negates damage dealt to you (multiple copies gain you life) and adding Gray Merchant of Asphodel afor drain and a resilient creature to activate pestillence against.
