Okay so me and my friend were discussing Pauper when he said this: "lol if we try Peasant I can play doom blade and no one else can cause my doomblade is from m12" I replied saying "We can use our doomblades from m14 then" he replied then saying "no cause its not a common" can we use our m14 doomblades in Pauper or can he not use his cause its uncommon now?

You can use any card that was once printed as a common in the Pauper format. So yes, you can use Doom Blade , even if it is the M14 version.

TheFanatic is correct. The only cards you cannot use originally printed as uncommon or common are cards printed in Arabian Nights that have had their rarities changed in the gatherer. I learned the hard way when I had to dismantle my Flying Men /Serendib Efreet /Unstable Mutation deck.

An addendum: Serendib Efreet was recently printed at uncommon in Vintage Masters, so I believe it passes the test?

It passes Peasant, but not Pauper.

Beware houserules though - our LGS houseruled cards could not have been printed in other rarities -- rendering staples like Hymn to Tourach , Crypt Rats , and the like unplayable.

Pauper originated online, and the rules stated it must have been printed as a common on MTGO to be usable - also removing Hymn to Tourach but allowing Crypt Rats , or Doom Blade in this case. So it all depends on the environment you are playing in. As long as everyone builds by the same rules though, everything should be good.
