Several Questions about Pauper...

Since I'm trying to get back at Pauper, I got several questions:

  1. Do cards automatically get banned when the Rarity of that card (eg: Simic Signet converting from Common to Uncommon, or Fyndhorn Elves having a promo version (In this case, From The Vault: TWENTY.).)

  2. My deck is at a casual status. Any advice as to how to raise the Competitive Meter (Yes, it's still wonky; don't remind me please... X/)

  3. Please post suggestions on my deck that seem better than others. Can you handle a WUBG deck? How to make it better?

  4. Can you find a list of Staples for Pauper & cEDH, please? Thanks.

  1. No. If a card has at least 1 printing as a common, it is forever legal in the format.

  2. NO idea how to raise it, nor does it matter.

  3. Tri-color is nigh on impossible without heavy amounts of fixing. Four colors is actually impossible and it is not worth it ever.

  4. Pauper is a highly synergistic format. What one deck considers a staple, will not be so for the next one.

Boza's right. Once a common, always a common.

Increasing the Competitive Meter could actually make the deck worse, since it's not accurate.

If you're playing Pauper competitively, it is best to stick to 2 color or mono-color. If you're just playing for fun without that "tier 1" concern, then that's a slightly different story.

Thanks guys. I'll probably remove a color or two (White is an obvious choice to remove, but I actually have one last question to ask: What is the basic template for Pauper (Thus in turn, stuff like Standard.)? I'll wait for now...

Yeah, I went a little too deep with that last comment. To clarify, while there are staples, I would not stuff a deck full of staples and call it a day. Individual card power in pauper is generally lower, so even the staples are not that much more powerful than the second-best option.

I would use a synergistic deck, that focuses on cards with a similar theme/direction instead to build a deck, to maximize redundancy.
