Trying to get into pauper.

Okay, so I'm very new to the pauper format. I want to try it to see if i like it, and i have very limited knowledge, and want to know more about it. I want to know what some of the staples are, some of the top decks, how fast the format is etc. Basically i want to get a general understanding of the mechanics of the format, as i have next to no knowledge of the format but i want to get into it. Pretty much all I know is that storm was really good before they banned the only good storm cards, and that infect is good, and that Cloud of Faeries sees lots of play. Bascially I don't think that's enough to go on, and am wondering whether people can help me with personal knowledge or relevant links to help me get into the format. Thanks in advance :)
Thanks, these are very helpful links. If say, i'm trying to make a home-brew / rogue deck (i hate net decking), can someone also direct me to a resource with lots of staples of the format, so i have something to go on to flesh out my strategies?

I'm not really too sure. I mean you could take a look at the top rated commons on gatherer? Apart from that, I don't know.

A little exploration on mtggoldfish.com would give you this page

I see a lot of exalted decks in my area. The build is W/U. Very fast with very good options.

Thank you very much for these links everyone. I'm sure this will give me enough to start on.

I'm not much of a netdeck person either. Our LGS had a big pauper tournament in 2013 and my friends and I did a lot of research since we had never touched that format. We each brewed about 3 decks - I piloted white/green enchant infect to first, my buddy managed 2nd with my mono-blue faeries, and my other friend got 3rd place with a deck built around Kiln Fiend . Later I placed 2nd in a pauper tournament with a mono-black - ghetto reanimator deck I brewed. The best part of the format is how inexpensive it is to create several decks to playtest with.
Here is a link to my personal pauper decks. Pauper Folder
As far as staples go. Apostle's Blessing is pretty popular as a sideboard card and usable in any deck. Blue spells like Mana Leak , Snap , and Cloud of Faeries are popular as well. There are a few cards banned in the format such as Invigorate . If you have a particular card / theme / or color I could probably give you some more specific ideas, although the meta for pauper is more prevalent on MTGO.

Blue is very popular and strong. I enjoy playing mono-black. It is a very fast format. Alot can have happened by T2. It's probably faster than standard at the moment (depending on the deck, but this is generally true).
