I looked it up and it said basically that its a deck made of commons, along with other nit-picky stuff. It did make specific mention of being an online format, but i see no reason why it couldnt be played in person. Is it only being played online, or are people playing in person as well?

People play it in person, but there really isnt a competetive format anywhere but online from my understanding.

Nothing stopping you from starting it up offline. I've personally been toying with the idea of getting a tiny tourney started on Saturdays at the local card shop.

I play in-person or "paper" pauper and it's pretty fun. Just keep in mind that some cards were only printed as commons in MTGO Masters Edition sets, and they typically aren't legal in paper pauper if you do find a league to join.

As an FYI about pauper: Just because it's a cheap format, doesn't mean it's not a competitive format. It has solid top-tier decks, just like other constructed formats. If you throw a deck together with a bunch of commons, you will get annihilated. The people who often play in my paper league are SUPER competitive.

pauper sounds interesting i think i might want to try it. also the challenge of making a great deck with just commons is intriguing...what would be the best standard pauper deck?

Pauper is great in person, and super cheap. You can usually throw together a competitive pauper deck in an afternoon and still have enough money in your pocket for a coffee. :D

I play Wee Fiend, and it takes down my buddy's reanimator deck with ease. It's a fun format, and can be SUPER fast.

Pauper uses just commons, and i saw another format called peasant that allows up to 5 uncommons. I think I am going to try to make a standard deck that is also a pauper to see how it works.

eroqnroll - There is a separate standard pauper format on MTGO, and lots of good deck lists out there. It usually boils down to just a handful of competitive decks winning all the time though.

Yeah, but Standard Pauper is worse than most. To the point that it's actually no fun.
