Will pauper grab on?

With so many formats out it we find ourselves broke wanting new cards. Do good cards define a good player, or does good deck building? Can commons and only commons make a good deck? If so, am I the only one who loves the concept?

Also, if this is a discussion about Pauper in particular, then it should really go in the Pauper forum.

Thousands of people play pauper on MTGO, and there are more and more people playing paper pauper. So, yeah, it's catching on. But the more popular pauper gets, the more expensive good commons will become. Some of the commons used on MTGO cost $5-$10 each due to pauper demand, and if it really takes off in paper we'll see it happening to print cards too.

There isn't anyone playing paper Pauper in my area but I wish there were, or at least my shop had a 'pauper' night as they do EDH. I'd actually really like to get into it but I don't like playing on MTgO because it becomes too expensive to keep up a real life paper card collection AND an online card collection. I can only afford one or the other.

Pauper is like any other format in that you can net deck a tier 1 deck, or you can brew your own.
A lot of people assume that pauper is a casual format because it uses commons. This isn't he case. It's VERY competitive. A lot of pauper players are hard core legacy folks.

I really like the idea of pauper. Not many people around me play, as i only play paper pauper. To me the idea is very appealing, the format is fast and aggressive and best of all cheap. As a highschool sophomore a 20 dollar deck that can consistantly win turn three is very appealing to me. So i hope it catches on more, but before that happens let me pick up a Mono Blue Delver deck before the price spikes too much.

I like pauper in theory, but some of the cards are difficult to find. I'm personally not a fan of buying cards online, and no-one puts Cloud of Faeries into their folders. I personally think something like commons/uncommons modern is a good format, as nothing is too expensive (most i think would be Remand ), but essentially decks are less than $100.

The cards don't define a player in that card quality is unrelated to player skill. The only time cards matter to player skill is during the deckbuilding process, when discretion and selection are indicators of a player's understanding of the game.
"Good" is also a relative term. Can you make a good deck out of commons and uncommons? Sure. There are plenty of good pauper decks, and storm is mostly commons and uncommons.
