Pioneer lantern control

Pioneer Deck Help forum

I have been recently trying to brew a version of lantern control in pioneer. I have not been able to find any cards that look at the top card of your opponents deck permanently. I think playing it in pioneer would be a great advantage because Karn is banned(yay) but the best I have been able to come up with is blinking Saheeli's Silverwing over and over again lol. Does anybody have any ideas for cards that can permanently reveal the top card of your opponents library?

From my brief research, it looks like Dakra Mystic and Dimir Charm are the only viable options being 2 cmc or less.

I think lantern control would be a cool deck in pioneer. A lot of sideboard these days also are geared to take on lantern control with leyline of sanctity and artifact removal.

But maybe I also just feel that way from how modern warped with modern horizons and how the Pioneer meta got stale for the past few months.

Those aren’t the type of cards I’m looking for. I’m looking for repeatable ways to look at the top of your opponents library. I was experimenting with the silverwing blink and it didn’t work out.

There really isn't any Pioneer-legal single card that continuallu reveals topdecks without doing something else, like Dakra Mystic. There aren't that many topdeck-reveal cards outside of Pioneer, either. That's why Lantern of Insight is so valuable in the deck. The only other directly similar card is Wizened Snitches, with stuff like Aven Windreader being a lot less efficient.

I like the idea, I messed around with Modern Lantern Control for a while, but I don't think the cards are there for a Pioneer version. Your Saheeli's Silverwing blink is as efficient as anything else I came up with in a few quick searches. There just aren't that many cards that let you look at your opponent's library without immediately exiling, milling, or somehow manipulating it--Thief of Sanity, Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker, etc. Draugr Thought-Thief is pretty much the only other Pioneer-legal card I can find.

I might use the aven windreader as it seems like into could be used with a lot of ramp. Will be making a version of the deck soon.

Well, Aven Windreader isn't Pioneer-legal. I was just using it as an example of a similar effect to Lantern of Insight.

Oh. So the saheelis silverwing blink is the best option available?

That, or Draugr Thought-Thief. If you're in blue, the Thought-Thief is cheaper and can mill if you don't like what you see. Thought-Thief + Eldrazi Displacer (or another blinker) is one less card than Silverwing + Displacer + Codex Shredder or whatever and gets a similar enough effect, I think. If you're not in blue, Silverwing's probably the way to go.

I've never played Pioneer, so it might be fringe-viable. And I believe in building the deck you want to play, so if you're going to have fun with it, I say go for it. I'm just not expecting it to be a high meta deck at all--it's going to take some mana each turn just to keep the main function rolling. Best of luck, and if you find something I missed, let me know!
