What color(s) are you running?

Leyline of Sanctity is always an option

Loxodon Smiter and any card with a Madness ability will give you advantage when being forced to discard

Having multiple cards filling the same role(s) means you can't get blown out as easily by a few discard spells. Other than that, just use discretion when keeping your starting hand; if you know they can cast Thoughtseize turn 1, and you’re on the draw somehow, try to keep a hand that seems redundant (cards that do the same thing, duplicates, etc.), but still good. Secondly, don’t be afraid to mulligan; if you don’t think you’ll be able to have a strong start, and keep the gas, than mulligan. Lastly, never be afraid to play/keep a hand, there is a fine line between being discretionary and being fearful; an experienced opponent will know when you’ve crossed that line, and they will punish you for it.

If you have a very good curve you will end up with a lot of valuable cards in your opening hand. Bant Spirit decks excel at that.

I have a rule where I mulligan until I have two lands and a play by Turn 2. I try to never mulligan lower than five cards.

Of course has you all kinds of covered, if you play that. Invasive Surgery and Swan Song are your go tos.

You should also be running removal. They take your cards, you destroy/exile theirs.

Finallly, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Nothing to stop you running a playset of Thoughtseize/Agonizing Remorse yourself. I run 4 of each in my Control deck.

Duress is another good option. My favourite thing to see is to Lost Legacy all Inverters of Truth our of their stupid combo netdecks.

Linking your decks like this is more useful.

Part of playing Magic is colour choice based on your meta.

It sucks when you REALLY want to play a certain deck, but it's the difference between competitive and casual play.

I usually have a couple of decks ready to play at any one time, and choose which one is the most effective in the current meta.

I've had a Control deck ready since Pioneer was announced. It hasn't been worthwhile playing until now.

Early on I played Vehicles, which suited the faster meta and went really well. It stopped being as viable once Smuggler's Copter was banned.

I also played Artifacts for a while. That was LOTS of fun, but not really competitive.

I have played Burn, also just for fun, even though I knew it would do badly. Sometimes just getting a certain play to happen is all I need to make me happy one night.

Save your Mono Green deck to play with friends, or hang on to it for when the meta shifts back in its favour.

In the meantime you can either change it by adding or build a completely different deck for the current meta.
