Best/Worst Consolation Prize Ever

I went to a two headed prerelease event for SOI this Sunday, and did so so. It was a small group, only 8 teams, and we came 5th, the last ranking place.
Our prize: one pack of SOI each and one pack of Oath each.
I ask if I can swap my Oath pack for a SOI pack, one of the opponents from our last game says "Just keep your expedition."
I open the pack, and pull an Eye of Ugin expedition. The room erupts when I announce it.
The next day, it's banned in modern.
Woo.

So let me preface this by saying that my LGS' owner is a complete and total douchebag. That being said...
BFZ pre-release weekend. It's Sunday. There's seven people at our store, we needed eight to do the PR. I was there, I wanted to play, but I had no money. Said LGS owner says that he'll let me do the pre-release for free, but anything I opened had to go straight to him after the event. Not to the store, since I was technically just playing with store product anyways. To him.
Anyways, my pulls are bonkers. I go in with U/G Eldrazi and do great. As in, it's the only event I've ever been in where I ever took first place.
So I go to inquire about prize support and he says that since I was playing with "his" product, prize support for 1st place will go to him. The store hears this and has a collective fit. So he "tries" to do damage control and says that I can have one pack out of the 24 that I won. I figured I shouldn't press my luck with this guy, as he'd probably be fickle enough to just say "nope you leave with nothing", so I watched as he opened his 23 packs in front of me. Best he got was an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger.

Funny enough i had some strange luck last weekend with soi sealed. My pool was absolutely garbage. Best i could do with it is some weird rg splash white deck that could pretty much only go sideways or die while everyone around me opened up sorins and avacyns and arlins. I still managed to go 3-1 only losing to mana issues. Got 4th place out of 8 , got 3 packs because pack per win but got stuck with oath because they ran out of soi packs. Opened....jank again. :( my luck was simultaneously great and terrible that day. However, my gf managed to crack thing in the ice and sin guy and went 2-2 despite the fact that she hardly even plays the game at all and managed to kill an opponent with thier own triskedekaphobia twice.

OMG VampireArmy give her a huge high-five for me. The one thing I wanted to do during prerelease was either lose to Trisky, make an opponent lose to their own Trisky, or force a draw through Trisky. Sad I never got the opportunity, but at least it can still happen at draft night. My hopes live on.

I had one opponent who I drained for one with the witch curse card and that put us both at 13 life. It was my turn. I was playing black. He told me "don't do it man...don't play triskaiphobia. DON'T DO IT!!"
I stared right into his eyes as I played my next card. I could hear his soul screaming as I laid down my black card of pain: Swamp. I passed the turn.
I was flooded. .-.

It was hilarious. He played Sin Prodder into trisky so she made him discard the next two first draws putting her to 14 and she blocked perfectly to put him at 13 on the crack back while falling to 6 herself. It was amazing considering she'd never even played a serious game ever before then man. I was sooo freakin proud. Now she wants to draft more c:

That's freaking awesome both as a feel good story and an MTG story. I hope she continues to enjoy the game! I'm still trying to convince my gf to go to a draft. She's done prereleases before but drafting gives her anxiety. Which makes some sense, I suppose. After all, my first draft ended up where I passed my pile of picks throughout the table and it ruined the whole thing...

I've still drafted >10 times, but really love it. I'm looking forward to many SOI drafts in my future, starting with this Friday.
Now if only I can realize my Triskaidekaphobia dream...
(I nearly gave up trying to spell that...)

I went to the BOTG prerelease and got actual last place. The store owner liked that I stuck around regardless and so he gave me a consolation prize of a Dragon's maze fat pack. It was incredible until I opened TWO Emmara Tandris from it.
We burned them.
