Hey, guys, I just got accepted into UNC at Chapel Hill, and I'm super excited. Because it was my first choice, I plan to attend there. Anyways, are there any players on here that live around the area or attend college there or at a nearby college? If so, does anyone know of any places for Magic?

45 mintues from where I am, not from Chapel Hill. The store is basically on campus.

I currently work at Duke (so we are obligated to hate each other), but there is a really active community in the area. There is store just across from campus as noted above, and there is a really nice store that has weekly Legacy and weekly alternating Modern/constructed standard and draft every Friday. There is weekly EDH as well.

It is probably about 15-20 minutes drive from campus.

There are two stores in the Chapel Hill area. There is Multiverse gaming which is a smaller store and atomic empire which is fucking enormous. Their store is about a 5 minute walk from campus and is across from a Krispy Cremes and next to an Ice Cream shop.

While I don't play magic a lot I tend to go to atomic even though it is a 30 minute drive from where I live in Carrboro. The store is pretty awesome with draft, standard, modern, legacy and EDH events all the time. It is also worth noting that atomic has beer which is for sale so once you are of age you can lose games to things other than mana screw/flood.

As a note, you are obligated to hate dplerner as he is a Duke fan. If you some how don't already know there is an eternal hatred between the two schools. And franklin street is a very interesting place after UNC wins a game.

There a facebook page for chapel hill MTG which serves to do a very small amount of organizing for players and a very large amount of very long discussion in the comments that don't actually conclude anything.

Awesome! Thanks for the information. Pretty excited to get there as my LGS is starting to die down. I saw Multiverse online, and it looked pretty small. It's likely I'll go to Atomic Empire, however, since they cater to EDH and Modern and are apparently a lot bigger than Multiverse.

And dplerner, because you are a Duke fan, I guess I am forced to hate you. lordoftheshadows, I know how Franklin St. is. I was at Top of the Hill the night they won the NCAA basketball championships in 2009 because my sister went there at the time.

I have played at Atomic Empire for their IQ's and whatnot. That shop is one of the nicest I have seen. Plenty of room, lots of players and an awesome selection.

But, My home LGS is in Spring Lake, called NC Gamer's Guild. Small shop but the owner is fucking awesome. Does a student and military discount and has really great pricing. I will have to meet up sometime.

I plan on going to Atomic Empire for the Modern States happening in April. (I think it is scheduled there). I will put up a post and have to some fellow TO people meet up.

That's pretty good to know. Unfortunately I won't be there until the fall. I posted this because I might be going up there every now and then. I would love to go to the Modern States, but I'm about three hours away from Atomic Empire. But thanks for letting me know!

Atomic Empire is pretty great, I know some people who play and judge there. They also sell a ton of other stuff: board games, RPG books and supplies, comic books, etc.

There's a smaller shop in the town I grew up in, Hillsborough, called The Toy Factory. The owner and the usual crowd are good people, and I like to go visit when I happen to be around town (sadly not too often, as I live about an hour away now).

It might take a little longer for you to get to the Toy Factory vs. going to Atomic from UNC-CH campus since you'd have to use NC-86, which is just a 2 lane road for most of the way there. There's an alternate way using I-85, which is a better drive, but I don't know if it saves any time.
