I do prefer bow and arrows that guns, it's funnier, cheaper, and it don't piss anyone off!

Duh, I just began running again, after gaining like 10kg (metric system master race) in a year and stopping almost any kind of sport because of studies and... It hurts! Next time, I'll go a bit slower. X)

By the way, thanks again for all the people that answered me and and helped me to notice that I went completely retard. X)

People in the UK are upset because 80% of chicken has been found to contain a particularly nasty bacteria.

80% of raw chicken.

Raw chicken.

Raw

Like, really guys? You're upset because RAW MEAT CONTAINS BACTERIA. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.

My little brother is a cop, so he's taught me a thing or two at the range. I can hit center mass with a 9mm nine out of ten shots at 75 feet now. I greatly prefer handguns - mostly because I haven't had a ton of experience with rifles.

May 28, 2015 5:39 p.m.

My stepmom hates guns so I haven't gone shooting for a really long time. Hopefully I'll get some in this summer at my grandparent's house.

May 28, 2015 5:50 p.m.

I have a .22 carbine and a .22 lever-action. There are two 9mm pistols in the house. I think there's a .38 revolver somewhere.

I kinda want a 5.56 AR, but ammo isn't cheap. Maybe I'll get a nugget.

May 28, 2015 5:54 p.m.

Sagarys says... #19

Lots of people hate guns right up to the point that someone takes them shooting. Suddenly, they're gun enthusiasts. Scary or not - politics aside - they're crazy fun to shoot.

May 28, 2015 5:54 p.m.

Sagarys says... #20

5.56 ammo is a bit of a pain. I actually want to get a FiveSeven, but the ammo for those things is absurdly expensive too. I could never take it to the range for fun, I'd go broke. But it's a pistol that shoots rifle ammo... it makes my gun-Timmy very happy.

May 28, 2015 5:57 p.m. Edited.

Oh! I dropped on at a good time! We talkin' bout bullet sticks?!

May 28, 2015 5:58 p.m.

Sagarys says... #22

Yeeeeah buddy.

May 28, 2015 5:59 p.m.

Well, it's not "rifle" ammo. It's a pistol/subgun cartridge. But it's cool.

The issue with all the proprietary and specialist cartridges is the cost, to be honest. I'd love to try 5.7, 6.5, and a few others, but there's just no practical reason to get something chambered in them when the other calibers are so much more available.

May 28, 2015 5:59 p.m.

Sagarys says... #24

Agreed. That's why my house is full of 9mm's. If I ever decide to splurge on a Timmy gun, it'll be a 5.7 or a Glock 10mm.

I would like to pick up a decent shotgun too though. Something sturdy and easy to use for home protection if I can't get to the pistols.

May 28, 2015 6:04 p.m.

I'm all for gun control, I'm not sure there's really a reason to own more than 4-5 guns, but damn they're so much fun to shoot.

May 28, 2015 6:07 p.m. Edited.

I'm looking to start getting back into pistol competitions. We'll see how that turns out.

May 28, 2015 6:08 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #27

You're statistically more likely to die during home invasions and burglaries if you yourself own a gun, than if you do not own a gun.

Jus' sayin

May 28, 2015 6:11 p.m.

I myself prefer rifles over handguns and shotguns. But don't get me wrong, I'll shoot a shotgun just as fast as I'd eat a cookie.

I like rifles for the consistent precision, low recoil (depending on what rifle of course), accuracy, and the ability to stay as far away as possible.

:)

May 28, 2015 6:11 p.m.

TheHroth says... #29

Guns r cool. Shooting is fun.

But never for the life of me will I understand the urge to own even a single one.

May 28, 2015 6:18 p.m.

Oh, and by the way, I'm not trying to start anything, I seriously am just interested.

May 28, 2015 6:21 p.m.

Sagarys says... #33

It's just an issue of preference. I, on the other hand, couldn't fathom NOT owning a gun. It's a hobby as much as it is a weapon.

May 28, 2015 6:22 p.m.

@TheHroth, some shooting ranges allow you to shoot guns they have for a certain price.

May 28, 2015 6:22 p.m.

I myself own a over-under double barrel 20 gauge that I named Big Bertha.

To be fair, you're statistically more likely to die in a car accident if you own a car too. Like anything with risks, if you're smart, safe, and practiced, you're probably going to be fine.

May 28, 2015 6:28 p.m.

I'd love to see the demographic composition of that study. I'm willing to bet that it isn't educated middle class white males involved in the majority of those invasions.

Alright, thanks Chief! :)

@tyforthevenom, archery is really fun too, but I suck at it... For some reason, I'm really good with a rifle in my hands, but a bow, or even a crossbow, and suddenly I have spaghetti noodles for arms. XD

May 28, 2015 6:29 p.m.

Sagarys says... #42

I'll take an increased chance of shooting myself (not likely) over being powerless during a home invasion any day.

May 28, 2015 6:34 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #43

I wonder why people throw "white" in with middle class all the time.

May 28, 2015 6:35 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #44

Sagarys - the point is that homicide rates are higher in areas where gun ownership is high. As in if you have a gun yourself you are MORE powerless, instead of less ie. you are more likely to be seriously injured in a broad sense.

I think the point is that paradoxically there is a strong correlation between household gun ownership and homicide rather than there being a correlation between household gun ownership and like..... low homicide. Which debunks the whole 'protection' thing because you are statically LESS SAFE if you own a gun.

Another interesting review: There is no negative correlation between owning guns and committing homicides or violent crime without guns. In simple language - you would expect that as gun ownership goes down people start committing violent crime without guns; they compensate with knives for example. Criminals are still going to exist right? So they'll start using other weapons?

Wrong.

This is not the case. As gun ownership decreases violent crime decreases full stop - whether that's with a gun or not. This suggests that if you take away guns people don't start like stabbing each other etc - the crime rate just falls completely.

May 28, 2015 6:38 p.m.

Sagarys says... #45

I don't know enough data off-hand to refute that and I'm at work so I can't do too much research, so I'll concede to your source for now. But it feels like there's a very heavy disconnect somewhere in there, like the data might not be 100% unbiased.

May 28, 2015 6:44 p.m.

hows it hangin' everyone?

I know its a little personal, but I thought I should ask.

May 28, 2015 6:47 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #47

I do not think you guys can read studies unless you are in an academic institution.

However here are some anyway:

gun ownership is correlated to victimisation

gun prevalence is related to homicides

Can I point out the first study is US wide. We are not talking a sample size of a few hundred - we are talking thousands and thousands of data points. It is EXTREMELY unlikely that sampling bias is at play here. Though other biases may be.

The second study is a review of all literature. A review goes through multiple studies. If each study uses a few thousands participants then a review ends up with the most epic sample sizes and statistical validity. Like you essentially look at ALL THE PEOPLE. Also I believe one of the studies they looked at in that review examined gun crime across 21 different countries. We are not talking about idiots in the back end of nowhere who do not know what they are doing. We are talking about a significant, representative chunk of the community.

I can get more if you want more :)
