I'm just waiting for a conversation to start instead of random shit.

sirbar says... #4

Any ideas for what to do over summer break while all your friends are in Europe?

June 2, 2015 9:58 p.m.

Epochalyptik says... #5

Get a job, start lifting, learn a new subject, whatever you want.

June 2, 2015 9:59 p.m.

I want to go to Europe... But I also want to October to come so I can actually apply for a teaching post in Japan.

June 2, 2015 10:13 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #7

That would be a great habit to have.

More of a super power really.

Be able to self motivate to become more productive.

I find that I have struggled with this for a while.

June 2, 2015 10:15 p.m.

sirbar says... #8

Hmm being productive. Yeah that does sound better than laying in bed watching hours of TV. Though getting a job is going to be near impossible since I live in an ag town and we are in a drought. To the gym it is!

June 2, 2015 10:15 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #9

sirbar, I picked up the guitar again after not touching it for about a year. Then I got a job and worked all summer. Also if you're still in high school, try volunteering. Colleges eat that shit up, I think. And start lifting like Epoch said.

June 2, 2015 10:16 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #10

If you do actually start lifting there's a thread called Witness the Fitness on here. I'm on my phone right now and it's just about dead, but I'm sure Epoch can redirect you for any insight and questions. Also you could try starting a small business around your town, if there's a market or whatever for it. I've been mowing lawns for 5 years and pressure washing with a friend for 2. Good way to pass the time.

June 2, 2015 10:20 p.m.

sirbar says... #11

@NoPantsParade I was lifting for the entire first semester this year but had to drop weight training to fix some classing issues. I have heard of the thread and thank you for informing me of it. I was a boy scout from second grade I wanna say up until this last year, so I have had plenty of volunteering and I'm not sure if I will be going to college.

June 2, 2015 10:34 p.m.

I'm terrible at motivating myself to do things that I don't get results from.

Fuck doing homework if I don't have to turn it in, but then I do poorly on the tests. I hope they're good enough to get me into AP calc lol or else I'll have to take AP stats as a senior.

June 2, 2015 10:34 p.m.

@Didg: I used to (and still do) have issues motivating myself to do certain things. What is it that you're trying to achieve?

I personally find it helpful to set start dates, especially if they coincide with other life changes, for my endeavors. For example, I started lifting the first day I started working full time.

I also find it helpful to think about goals as a form of motivation or challenge. I quit playing video games by reminding myself that in ten years, I won't remember any of the games I've played, but I'll remember most of the books I've read and I'll still have all of the gains I've made. I also tie my goals together. I'd like to be ripped by the time I get to grad school, so I have about one to two years to drop to single-digit body fat and then start gaining. I'd like also to end up in a particular field, so I committed myself to reading in that field regularly.

@sirbar: Fitness thread.

June 2, 2015 10:39 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #14

I guess the main issue is that I don't know what it is I really want to achieve.

There is a bunch of personal reasons/excuses to my goings on, and don't really want to get into that bit on the forum.

Consistency is key, and I guess I need some of that first.

Whoo! Pascal Maynards foil Tarmogoyf is a whopping 16K!

Linkity Link

June 2, 2015 10:47 p.m.

Jesus F Christ that's a lot of money lol

June 2, 2015 10:53 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #17

ThisIsBullshit, AP stats is pretty easy. I had no troubles with the class or AP calculus AB. Stats is mostly done on the calculator then writing and interpreting what's on the calculator. But fuck probability. I just don't get that shit. But it's actually a fairly interesting class, and I'm glad I took it.

June 2, 2015 10:55 p.m.

sirbar says... #18

So I believe now that it was the right decision to pick the goyf first.

June 2, 2015 10:55 p.m.

lots of money, more than black lotus.

ya gotta think, who would pay that much money, and what would they do with the card?

June 2, 2015 10:56 p.m.

Definitely lol

June 2, 2015 10:57 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #21

Prob someone who wants to support the charity, and get a small piece of MtG history as well.

June 2, 2015 10:58 p.m.

@Didg: You may find it useful then to set short-term goals that you can use to gauge your interest in something and your ability to achieve it. If you find that you enjoy achieving the goal or that the goal is worth achieving, you can leverage that to motivate you to achieve a second-stage goal.

Try finding things in your life that serve as motivation as well. This is one of the ways I motivated one of my less fortunate and less motivated friends to start running. Look for opportunities to improve and set realistic goals based on your schedule, abilities, and interests.

June 2, 2015 10:59 p.m.

kyuuri117 says... #23

It's because it's now a collectors item. Like, foil goyfs are great and all, but this one has caused such an uproar, that it's going down in mtg history. This is going to end up being as valueable as the garfield life event cards, because there is only going to be one foil goyf that has sparked this much controversy.

Plus, some collectors might be trying to use this as a tax write off. Since half is going to charity, if they can write it off, they are basically getting what they paid for, for half the price, since it's not like the card will ever lose value.

June 2, 2015 11 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #24

Didgeridooda: I find it helps to share your goals with others. That way they can support you and perhaps help you with achieve it. I wish that were true for me, but no one really around me supports my fitness goals. That aside, sharing my goals with others helps/motivates me to achieve them so that I don't look silly not achieving them.

June 2, 2015 11:02 p.m.

I've read disparate things about whether sharing your goals makes you more or less likely to achieve them. Maybe ChiefBell can offer some help there.

Of course, it depends on the kind of person you are. It doesn't really matter what the trends are if it works for you.

June 2, 2015 11:12 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #26

Those are good suggestions, but not quite right for me. I have tried them. I do well, then slack, rinse, repeat.

I am not saying that I am giving up. Just putting things on hold for a couple weeks, then trying again.

June 2, 2015 11:14 p.m. Edited.

NoPantsParade says... #27

Perhaps if you find yourself procrastinating (for lack of a better word) that goal, then go do something you hate? Like if you hate running and you find yourself being counterproductive, then go run. Seems silly, but I'm just throwing stuff out there.

Just think, Pascal is getting 8K already, and there's 6 days left on the auction.

Also, some of these auctions are unreal. LIKE THIS ONE

June 2, 2015 11:19 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #30

When I was watching that video, I completely forgot I had Spotify running in the background. And all I could focus on was why "U Can't Touch This" was playing in the motivation video.

Haaaaa Made the little one jump pretty good. Should have turned the sound down.

June 2, 2015 11:21 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #32

That bob is not exactly an auction though. Just a listing. That is a lot of money for it though. I am not into foreign cards at all, so the value escapes me.

June 2, 2015 11:22 p.m.

HolyFalcon says... #33

Is this a steal? The foil shocks + foil Bob has to be worth at least the asking price. Complete NM Ravnica Foil Set 800$

June 2, 2015 11:23 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #34

1% off! That dude is selling too hard I think.

June 2, 2015 11:27 p.m.

HolyFalcon says... #35

XD yeah

June 2, 2015 11:29 p.m.

Eh. It's not really that great, especially when you consider how many useless foils you're getting.

This is a list of all of the foils in RAV worth $10 or more. The auction really isn't a discount, to be honest.

June 2, 2015 11:33 p.m.

HolyFalcon says... #37

From my count it's still around 900ish only counting 10$ or more foils. Didn't realize some of the shocks were in Dissension and Guildpact though. You also get foils if you're building a cube and need some random foils.

I played Halo once. It did not go well.

N64 Smash Bros is still where it is at.

June 3, 2015 11:42 a.m.

that doesnt mean I havent played it.

June 3, 2015 11:46 a.m.

6tennis says... #47

Too bad I don't have an N64. Blech.

June 3, 2015 12:04 p.m.

There's a new Fallout trailer? Can it beat XCOM 2? I think not. Mostly because I never cared much for Fallout since Post Apocalyptic settings were rather boring to me. Just not my genre. I prefer Skyrim.

June 3, 2015 12:11 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #49

I have an N64, but unfortunately it's in black and white due to a newer TV. Smash Bros. 64 and Mario Kart are still a lot of fun albeit in black and white. Mario Kart is kind of challenging though.

June 3, 2015 12:13 p.m.

Mario Kart 64 is one of the best games ever for destroying friendship. But more importantly, NoPantsParade do you possess the greatest game of all time?
