I can't remember the controls as its been over 7 months since I've played the games. Over a few years for Demon's Souls. But basic controls will be different for each player as I do remember being able to change them. You can also look at the manual for those. Oh, and different classes will allow some methods of play but not others. Paladin's healing allows to be more aggressive and reckless than most would like.

To my knowledge, the only control you can actually change, and only in DkS2 is how to jump while running and that's being able to change from hitting B (or the equivalent on PS) or pressing LS / L3. Other than that, there are no changes in what does what, besides which hand is holding what item, and even then the changes aren't large.

Anyways, that's what I'm saying. You're saying it's easy and being very dismissive of someone saying that they found it difficult when you can't even give them the controls. I'd start listing them off if I wasn't on a phone, because they are burned into my muscle memory. In fact, when I get back home after filling out paperwork for a job, I will, just so that I can get that urge put of my brain.

Alright, lemme see:

  1. Moving LS - Move character in that direction
  2. Moving RS - Move camera in that direction
  3. A - Activate / Talk
  4. B - Backstep
  5. B + #1 - Roll in that Direction
  6. Hold B + #1 - Dash
  7. Press LS while doing #6 - Jump
  8. X - Use Belt Slot Item
  9. Y - Two hand Right hand weapon
  10. Hold Y - Two hand Left hand weapon (Note: If certain conditions are met, you will enter a power stance. These conditions are: Compatible weapons in each hand and high enough stats [150%+ of each highest stat])
  11. Right or Left on D-Pad - Cycle through weapons in the appropriate hand
  12. Down on D-Pad - Cycle through Belt Slot Items
  13. Up on D-Pad - Cycle through Spell slots

Now we move to using weapons, shields, and catalysts / spell tools. For our example, the character will have a weapon in their right hand and a shield in their right. If you prefer the opposite (which can actually reduce damage, for some reason), simply switch the buttons:

  1. RB - Light Attack / Cast Spell (There are a few exceptions with weapons that double as spell tools, but those will tell you in their item descriptions. For those, you actually need to use the Heavy Attack to cast the spell.)
  2. RT - Heavy Attack / Special Attack (Special Attacks are relatively rare and include things like weapons that double as spell tools. There are also some Special Attacks that act like spells without actually needing to have a spell attuned.)
  3. Hold LB - Block
  4. LT - Parry / Shield Bash (This will change depending on size / classification of shield.)
  5. Flick LS forward + #1 or #3 - Guard Break
  6. Flick LS forward + #2 or #4 - Jumping Attack
  7. RB while falling - Plunging Attack
  8. RB after successfully Parrying - Riposte (Note that some enemies, like most bosses, can't be Riposted)
  9. RB while behind an enemy - Backstab

This was for Dark Souls 2 (which, for those that have played the games, might be obvious from the much less awful jumping controls which required you press the same button you are using to run in order to perform a jump, which could only be done while running) because I apparently enjoy being the most boring person imaginable. If anyone can spot anything I missed, feel free to tell me.

To describe how the game works, I'd just be like this:

It's a realistic combat simulator in third person that has you fighting unrealistic monsters. You have a realistic health bar, and realistic stamina bar, and can improve those in time with the experience you get from fighting. The weapon swings are realistic, and make your character tired in realistic fashion. The bigger and heavier the wep, the more stamina it consumes. The heavier armor you wear, the more it takes to run and roll.

In order to stay alive, it's better to learn the attack patterns of bosses and creatures and dodge their attacks with rolls. The best way to do this is to actually roll INTO the attack, right before it's about to hit you, as that seems to send you under the arm/leg/tail/whatever is coming at you.

If the creature is slow enough, put your shield away and back stab it. If it's not, just take two-three hits and back away.

That's how i'd explain the game.

Femme_Fatale says... #5

Rolling into the attack is the last thing you want to be doing. Against faster enemies they can quickly swing again or do spam attacks where they just wildly swing everywhere. Against heavier or larger enemies, their swings are incredibly massive, rolling forward means that you are incredibly unlikely to dodge their next attack, as rolling doesn't make you invulnerable permanently, you can still get hit while rolling and rolling forward makes you most susceptible. Sweeping attacks are the biggest threat here.

If you are a light-weight character with a light weapon, I can see rolling forward and doing a strike right afterwards in order to lightly stun the enemy out of their attack, but remember this doesn't work against heavier enemies, especially bosses. Heavier characters can't do this fast enough, so they have to stay out of the opponent's weapon range until they can strafe around to a nonlethal area, or use height (above or below) to your advantage and exploit the game's AI.

The biggest benefit of rolling away is that you have time to gather yourself for healing or getting into a better position. Rolling to the side means you force the opponent to spend time turning around, during which you can get a few strikes in OR strafe behind them and do a back-stab.

@elpokitolama I feel you. As a whole what's happening right now is frightening to say the least. Turkey playing with fire and shooting down a Russian fighter jet to provoke a cause for the alliance (NATO). The fear of terrorism driving the people in the arms of fascist and nationalistic parties. People fleeing from the terror in their home countries and nobody wants to help them out of fear of terrorism. It's absurd.

The thing is (about the extrme right of the French political spectrum) that half of us French didn't vote (I did, by the way). But all the people that are favorable to this thing are voting, thus leading to these vomitive results.

The FN ain't never gonna have the majority at the Assemble Nationale, nor its leader is going to be president. But if this happens, I think I'll emigrate to Canada, UK or New Zealand. >.>

VampireArmy you must be referring to Trudeau's remark to that absurdly stupid question of why he had a gender balanced Cabinet. You know, he was asked that after spending months telling people he was going to have a gender balanced Cabinet. But, I'm open to hear why you don't like the Liberals.

TheNextRedDude I'm actually not joking. The Liberals under Justin Trudeau have so far been productive and are aiming to implement several changes in the coming year, let alone in the next four years.

December 7, 2015 5:32 p.m.

December 7, 2015 5:39 p.m.

Well if things are exactly 50-50 on the dot, question begs to be asked considering life rarely gives that kind of absolute equality. That aside i have 0 problems with liberals as a whole. Hell, I'm sort "left leaning from the middle" myself. I do have a problem with thought and speech policing, over zealot pc rules, and that general sjw type shit. The sort of stuff that the left is pretty notorious for right now.

On another note, I'm a little annoyed with canadians at the college level. The insane protests, the bullshit people are fed there. It's like the us except no one's allowed to give a different viewpoint without being forced out. It's started happening here too.

All in all, i hate conservatives who act like the "rich" paying actual taxes will ruin the economy and believe they need literal ak47s in thier homes to "protect it" the same way i hate liberals who push feminism and thought policing.

I guess im destined to piss everyone off

ChiefBell says... #24

It's a better cabinet than usual though. That's the ironic thing. Not only is it 50-50, it's also the case that they're all eminently qualified. Normally, for example, the health secretary knows nothing about actually being or doctor or health. The education secretary was never a teacher and doesn't know about teaching etc. That's common - politicians are politicians and know very little about the things they pass laws about. In this case it's different though, I believe that each member of the Canadian cabinet ACTUALLY has experience in the field they're overseeing and not just politics.

If you missed it, Obama gave a speech about the whole "college students boycotting/protesting speakers they didn't agree with like little spoiled shits" issue that's been happening. Called em all out. He didn't like, rip em apart, cuz I assume he doesn't want to piss off his supporters too badly, but he basically told them that they needed to grow up. And that just because you don't agree with someone's view point, that doesn't give you the right to silence them, or automatically make them wrong.

I was honestly really surprised that he did it. If even he's willing to talk out about it, you know it's gone completely overboard.

December 7, 2015 5:58 p.m. Edited.

VA, I get what you mean. We have reached the point where the genders are equal by law in most cases, so demanding better treatment of one gender is sort of like protesting for gender INequality.

ChiefBell The world needs more of that. I would say that the lawmaking process would have to include a good number of people with education and experience in the field. Otherwise, it's like making a kindergartener combo off with Eggs. With no knowledge of Magic rules beyond lands.

December 7, 2015 6:06 p.m.

ChiefBell it was certainly a welcome change.

VampireArmy you and I can agree about the over abundance of political correctness going on in universities right now. What I find funny, is that those who dissent (with well reasoned arguments) are considered the enemy and shut down.

"Honestly if 10 people sat around and looked at a 10cm stick, and one person said "it's 20cm" and another person said "it's 10cm" the whole group of those people would eventually agree that the stick was 15cm long when it clearly wasn't. The balance fallacy is a really powerful thing."

You're simplifying this. I know experiments have been done where they have two sticks of the same length and one person vehenimently argue's that they are different lengths, but they usually don't end up convincing the whole group of that.

Also, as far as platforming goes at college/universities, I think using the examples you brought up is a bit skewed. The student population is never unified at these no platform ralley's. In fact, it's usually a very vocal minority who organize them, but they are so loud that they gain traction. And I'm also sure mob mentality has something to do with this.

Regardless, letting someone like Saddam Hussein into the country to give a speech on national television versus letting someone like Rudy Giuliani do a commencement speach are on two completely different levels. One is clearly a radical and mass murderer, one is a well respected ex-mayor who is known for being blunt in his views. Not agreeing with Saddam Hussein's world views isn't the other side of the extreme, it's just common sense. Not agreeing with Giuliani's political views is perfectly fine, but trying to boo him off stage leaves you looking like a fool.
