The problem is that you are looking at it like we HAVE to own weapons to defend ourselves. In most cases we don't, many of my friends don't own guns. There ARE corner cases though when people are wiser to have a gun than not.
It's not that we HAVE to do anything, we want to have that extra security of knowing that if shit goes down we don't have to rely on others to save us, but rather, we can save ourselves.
I, myself, live in a very rural community where the closest PD is 30 minutes away (more in the winter). 30 minutes is a LONG time to wait when there's a home invasion, even if the invader only has a bat/knife/hammer/other weapon.
Also, guns aren't hard to obtain via illegal means. (illegal or circumventing the laws for obtaining one.)
I can't speak to others' experience but my wife and I were in the ARMY together, we are both highly trained with firearms and we are both comfortable with them. Our son will be raised that a gun is no different than a hammer, knife, or other tool. That's what they are, tools not toys.
/rant. lol

It seems reasonable to have the desire to own one. I don't necessarily agree that they make you safer, but I can totally understand their appeal.

Sooooo went 3-1 today at my pre release with a shitty card pool. Best thing i pulled was under $5.
April 3, 2016 6:26 p.m.
Nice! I went 3-0 yesterday at my prerelease. I played blue black. Might I say that From Under the Floorboards is insane in limited! Every time I cast that card I won in 2-3 turns. If you are interested in what I pulled my binder has been updated.

2-2 with UB madness. It was kinda removal for days, though most my rares were terrible both in my pool and monetarily. Came in 10th though.
There was one guy who pulled a foil and nonfoil Sorin, Grim Nemesis. And from his prize packs he pulled another.

I went 2-1 with U/B/g Prized Amalgam style deck, Only lost to a deck which had trample. Also the Sanitarium Skeleton is MVP as the infinite chump blocker since my largest creature was a 3/3 with firebreathing. :P
Also I played Epiphany at the Drownyard for 10, so that felt nice. Also my good pull was a pack foil Cryptolith Rite, so into my EDH deck it goes...

Here's my great prerelease story - I got a pool with lots of good cards - just enough that I could almost build 3 good decks, but each individual deck was short several actual playable cards. Out of U/G clues, R/G Wolves, and R/B madness, I went with the madness deck because my red was pretty strong - nothing super exciting, but I had Dance with Devils, Fiery Temper, and Devil's Playground and not very many good wolves. I went 2-2, got one bad prize pack, nothing exciting there.
The really exciting part was at the end of the event. One of the regulars pulled double Olivias and a Falkenrath Gorger, and I was able to trade for those for my standard deck. But better yet, my opponent in round four was playing U/B zombies and happened to play an Asylum Visitor, and I asked if he'd be willing to trade. He said, "oh, I'll just give it to you, I don't play constructed." I got the visitor, another Gorger, a few Fiery Tempers, a Lightning Axe, and a Foreboding Ruins. In the end, I felt bad just taking them, so I paid him a few bucks. But still, feels pretty good.

I've done 30 hours of hard physical labor on top of writing in the past three days. I'm a white-collar worker. I'm not cut out for this shit. I'm sore in places I didn't even know I had muscles in.

I am currently eight hours in to a ten hour day. I'll be back at work to open in the morning and two days after that, I'll be working an 11 hour day (which was originally 13 and a half). I hurt, I'm tired, and there's a buzzing in my ears from the non stop activity in my head. I'm also about ready to choke out a coworker (and friend) because he won't fucking call his damn sides. But you know what? I'm actually kind of happy.

Your text formatting isn't expressive enough. If only there were some medium that would display images in rapid sequence so as to form video displaying content of your choosing.

I'm sorry, my sarcasm didn't come across well enough.

(I am kidding about the "go fuck yourself" though.)

Holy shit, these ban announcements. I'm so happy. Maybe Naya Burn will be a Tier 1 deck again.

I'm neutral about eldrazi as an archetype but I'm very disappointed that Eye was the ban.
We all know WOTC hates fast mana but if any real testing was done they would have realized that mimic was more of the problem.
A consistent T2 TKS wasn't the problem, a T3 Smasher wasn't the issue, having 2 mimics in play on those turns that can swing for 4ea and 5ea, now that was a problem.
Yes, eye enabled that, and without eye that stops but I firmly believe that eldrazi as an archetype will fall into T2 or T2.5 just like I predicted bloom would do. People are still trying to force it but it's dead.
Banning mimic would have left the deck with a massively slower first few turns with the only real T1 with eye would be endless one as a 2/2 equating to a 2/2 for 1 which would force the deck into a more midrange version where early aggro could easily capitalize and win the game before Eldrazi could mount much of a defense and leaving control time to get set up.
April 5, 2016 9:25 a.m.
I had a sort of semi-hiatus there myself. I just didn't have any time to devote to being as much of a regular on the site as usual over the past month or two.
April 5, 2016 5:39 p.m.
Ohthenoises: I'm also not sure I fully agree with that assessment. Mimic definitely lead to the most broken starts, but Eye provided the deck with a level of consistency that pushed it over the top. The draws that deck would get without Temple or Eye were pretty mediocre almost to the point of being actively bad even with mimic, however add either of those lands in and the deck was a hop and a leap ahead of everything else in the format.

Do you remember the decks that people were brewing for eldrazi before someone caught on about mimic? That would be the eldrazi decks we would be seeing.
Consistency is fine, look at CoCo or Kiki Chord, decks are consistent AF. Explosiveness is fine, look at 8 whack and Affinity, decks are blazing fast. Both together is a bad day.
By taking Eye they banned the explosiveness AND the consistency from the deck.
Now you can't consistently cast your threats when you need to and you can't be explosive enough to race aggro. A ban of Mimic would have meant that the decks would lose it's explosive edge, giving other players time to set up and play the game. However, the deck is still playable as a midrange deck.
Conversely a ban of Temple would have nuked the consistency alone and left some of the explosiveness but the deck would be too inconsistent to function.

DERPLINGSUPREME says... #37
@Ohthenoises either one would have pretty much bombed the deck. its just the fact that if the banned the temple then it would just be turn 3 wins instead of turn 2 with the thought nazi and the millions of turn 1 2 drops.
April 5, 2016 6:50 p.m.
Ohthenoises says... #38
Banning mimic wouldhave left you with an eldrazi midrange deck simple as that. It would still be playable but not unbeatable.
I've said right along that banning the lands was going to be the wrong move if they wanted to keep the deck competitive. Now the deck is t2.5 material or lower due to the fact that explosiveness and consistency both got removed. Its right there with Bory lands.
Its a shame really, almost every time something new comes along in modern this happens. Kind of irksome in a format where there's supposed to be no rotation. I miss the days before eggs got the axe.

Blizzard might have earned my eternal respect if the bait and switch they just pulled off with that overwatch bullshit was intentional.

6tennis long stupid story but here's the jist.
Overwatch featured a character called "tracer" that had a pose in the selection screen of her looking over her shoulder which to some idiots equated to sexualizing her by making her butt visible.
Blizzard responds by apologizing and explaining that the pose would be changed as to not offend anyone.
Yesterday the new pose was released. An even more flirtatious and provocative pose that was styled literally after an old pin up poster.
Bait and switch to the max.
April 6, 2016 10:03 a.m.
I'm with Vamp. One of the first things that caught my attention about Overwatch was that Tracer shares tons of similarities in playstyle with Ahri from League of Legends. The two are in the pic above.
I have something of an obsession with Ahri. The fact that she's a sexy fox-girl helps her case in my eyes quite a bit. I tend to play lots of alluring female characters in video games. Not necessarily lewd, but captivating to some degree. For instance, I think Orianna is a great character and she's hardly sexualized.
Still, sexy helps...
That's why I got kinda ticked off as the whole Tracer butt saga kicked into high gear. Tracer's pretty much the only reason I'd buy Overwatch at all... I'm sure I'd dig other characters, but I seriously need a waifu to commit to a video game hardcore.
And then there's MtG. No waifus for me.

That's what bothers me. People in the USA have to own weapons to protect themselves from fools that have weapons because they could get some easily for people have to own weapons to protect themselves from... It's the snake that bites its own tail, and that's what I mean by "twisted argument". :/
