elpokitolama do you mean your playgroup changed the rules, or the french rules committee did?

@Didgeridooda the committee did...
@sirbar Man, you said France always surrender? People never stop fighting against laws (peacefully) here, with demonstrations, strikes, etc. But if you're OK with studentd dying at all time of the year in mass shootings, then you can just sit back and continue to praise the Rpublicain congressmen for blocking your government. :/
September 28, 2016 3:41 a.m.
The issue with banning guns is that you aren't actually dealing with the real problem. Guns are the outlet that let these people do thes mass shootings, but these people shouldn't be getting to this point in the first place.
Whether it's our mental health system that's failing, our school system that's failing, or whatever else it is that causes depression on such a massive scale, that is what needs to be fixed.
Yes, the death toll would go down if you banned guns, but these people would still be suffering and would still try and make others stuffer.
Banning guns would be the equivalent of putting band aid on a cut that needs stitches. Itl might work a little bit at first, but it's not gonna fix the issue.

Also, judging Muslims on their religion is well within the first amendment, just as Muslims having the freedom to be Muslims and the freedom to gather at a Mosque. It's a two way street.
And while obviously the vast majority of Muslims aren't tetrorists, considering that almost every act of terror in the last fifteen years, both inside AND outside the United States has been conducted by a Muslim or someone else of middle eastern descent, it's well pay the point of a reasonable prejudice.

As a veteran from the army, The problem is people will still be committing violent acts and using guns obtained illegally to do so along with knives and other implements.
Disarming the masses does nothing but allow them free reign over the violence.
When there is a cheetah running around you don't take the antlers off of the gazelle with the logic that the cheetah will leave it alone because it doesn't have horns anymore.
What we need is a training program in the US that's tied to licences. (We licence cars, why not guns?) You have a few week long course teaching proper stance, cleaning, and safety practices. You get a licence. You need that licence to purchase a gun. You tie a background check to the licence and make it expire every (insert time here but I'm going with) 2 years.
To expound on this you can have different classes of licence just like cars. Class d; just pistols. Class A is rifles, Class B; shotguns, etc.
By tying the background check to the licence you are doing three things. One, you are weeding out the crazies before they become licenced. Two, you are making it so the stores don't have to worry about running a background check which reduces overhead and costs. Three, you stop the gun show loophole. All you have to do is make it mandatory to just show the licence to the seller and he knows you are good to buy.
Being from vermont EVERYONE has a gun here. You're abnormal to NOT own one. Our gun crime rate is third lowest in the nation. Know why? You walk in to a bank to rob it, you pull out a gun, 3/10 people in line for the tellers pull out theirs and everybody calmly waits for the police to arrive.

I definitely agree with Ohthenoises. I may not have military background, but owning guns (unless you want like a minigun or some unreasonable gun like that) is not really something that is very problematic. Not knowing how to use a gun is honestly probably more dangerous than owning a gun. My mother's friend owns a .45 because she fears for her safety, and I guess I can see that, but she has literally never shot it since she got it. she has no idea how to accurately or safely use a firearm, and she doesn't even remember how to drop the safety. It is ridiculous that she even has the gun. I agree that we do need background checks, but I never thought of just having a license system like that. seems like a good idea.

I agree with both of you on the license thing, which wouldn't be extreme enough to make everybody lose their minds. That's perfectly logic indeed: we saw in France very recently that even cars could be the deadliest weapons too...
Carrying weapons only have a reassuring effect on the wielders and their families. Pretty much for the reason Pro_Noob exposed. I do not recall hearing about any shooting that was stopped by an armed civilian...

On a topic that's not so far enough, I still have a hard time understanding why weapons can be sold easily while selling REAL (= as good as it is smelly) cheese can get you to jail. X)

elpokitolama mostly because things like school shootings happen in places where we're not supposed to have guns. Also, much of the media doesn't publicize shootings where nobody gets killed as much as ones where the crazy person kills 10 people because they think they're not as important or as eye-catching.

I Wish European's and American's could just respect our cultural differences and leave subjects like this alone. You guys don't like guns. That's okay. A majority of us like guns. Also okay.

EpicFreddi says... #13
With the difference that you kill each other with guns. On a daily basis. And your solution is more guns. America, apart from some huge fuck ups, has a great culture, because a lot of different things collide. But the gun thing is retarded on every level.

kyuuri117's post #16110 is very well put. The issue isn't the guns themselves - it's our poor mental healthcare system and the lack of complete gun control (complete meaning no holes, loopholes, etc.). A criminal will get a gun whether it's legal or not, so banning them will almost exclusively punish those that lawfully own firearms and use them properly and safely. Plus, implementing a gun ban is both unconstitutional and virtually impossible to achieve.

wow. I was just joking guys... I didn't really know how it transformed from "Joking fistfight" to "Insulting other nations and cultures gun control policies." But, oh well. It livened up the thread a bit, and now I know who I have to shun (not rally, all of you are family to me) because they prefer a racist xenophobic anti-gay anti-semitic Russian Loving (no offense to you Russians) chauvinist sexist self-dealing pig who can't stick to one side of the main issues, and who blatantly denies what other people have video and audio proof of, over Hillary. Yes Hillary has made some Major mistakes, but hey, so have all of us. Hillary is not my first choice, but she is leagues better then Trump. That's my two cents. If you want to talk more about why you like Trump, just post it on my wall please. I love debating politics.

Just because I like guns doesn't mean I like Dump lmao xD
I have a 1911 .45 because I live 40 minutes out from any first responder service and I wouldn't mind defending my home.
I'm also trained to handle firearms. I've been qualified on every single or crew serve weapon the army has access to including grenades. (not that I own any mind you.)
Again, just cause I have guns/like guns/ etc has absolutely zero bearing on how I view presidential candidates and if it does for you? That's pretty small minded and fearful.

I know that it doesn't. trust me, my family hunts every year, and almost everyone in my family owns a gun. (we shoot whitetail in South Dakota.) It was more of a general open ended question then an "If you like guns you like Trump and are obviously a republican." Trust me, People like that get me mad, and so I try my best to not be one of those people. Sorry if it came across that way.

Hurricane's gonna hit us pretty soon. Might go dark for a while. Should be pretty safe though. Not all that worried. I'm holed up an hour North of Miami. I'm currently working a dead-end job that I need for some time more. I'm looking forward to being able to ditch it and work on writing again. The grand plan is to write a novel - young adults, urban fantasy - while working freelance online. I'm currently struggling to find any free time at all. I haven't played EDH in 3 months, a personal record.
Oh, and hurricane Matthew ended up being the least threatening thing ever, so that's nice.

@elpokitolama- completely different cultures. Plus with Mexico being so close, if the government banned guns then you could just walk across the border and pick one up over there. And if you think people won't do that then you are sadly mistaken. Also you can't take guns from people who already have them, this isn't France they won't just surrender.....
Also how did that come up?
