Local Game Store Plague

Does anyone else's LGS have an infestation of my little pony fans? I've got like 5-6 different people who come to my store, every single week to play magic, and they ONLY wear MLP clothes. Why do they feel the need to wear shirts, belts, use decksleeves and playmats and backpacks covered in the damn things? For all I know, they're wearing MLP boxers/briefs.

I do not believe for a second "you actually watch the show". I do not believe that your wardrobe only consists of these pony t-shirts. If you want to jerk off to sexualized rule34 drawings of pony cartoons originally meant for 6 year old girls, that is not my fucking business, but why do they feel the need to advertise it? Do they just not care? I mean seriously, do they actually think people believe them when they say "I really like the show!"?

Not to mention how creepy it is to newcomers to the store. It's not fucking normal for grown, usually overweight, men to wear shirts with cartoon ponies on it. It makes them come across as mentally off, at best, and like a child molester at worst. So when someone new comes in to the store, maybe a mom or dad with a 10-16 year old kid, and see's grown men wearing pony shirts... they aren't going to be comfortable. They probably aren't going to come back, or allow their kid to come back. I sure as hell wouldn't in their position. It's not good for the growth of the game, or the game shop's business.

Does this bother anyone else, or am I over reacting? To me, it's like walking around with a playboy pinup on your shirt. You are advertising your sexual fantasies/desires to everyone who looks at you, and I don't think that's ok in a public setting, especially a public setting with kids.

I agree it definitely upsets me but I dont agree with the pin up analogy because a lot of "bronies" are just people that wear them to look cool in front of their friends so they can jack eachother off at the fact that they are "bronies"

I disagree. I think a lot of these "MLP Fans" are basically anime furries, and because of that wearing these shirts, and using the playmats and sleeves is the exact same thing as a pinup to them.

Edit: Or at the very least, it's one of their fetish's.

Honestly, most of the groups at my LGS are similarly "unique" crowds. Mind you all these people are adults for the most part (21-40+), socially awkward, just don't take care of themselves, and just don't seem to care.

1) The stereotypical anime fan (cat ears, costumes, and all relevant accessories)

2) The stereotypical animal lover (cats, dogs, unicorns, sharks with laserbeams, they have them all on t-shirts)

3) The stereotypical creeper (just ugh)

Only about a quarter or less of the regulars I see at events or regular days are pleasant, clean-cut, and normalish looking people. It's kind of disheartening sometimes.

I should have been more specific. Some of these people at my shop have sent customized, sexualized, pictures of these things to a custom T-shirt company. Or at least I assume that's what they've done. Would be kind of horrified if the MLP franchise was selling t-shirts of ponies in lingerie. Ditto with the playmats.

There is one guy who wears a pony shirt like once a month/two months, and he's a completely normal guy who everyone gets along with. But most of them are dysfunctional oddballs that make people uncomfortable with what they're wearing/using.

Yeah, you're definitely overreacting. Sure, maybe wearing a bunch of MLP stuff might come off as a bit strange to some, but come on. You think that them wearing and using these things automatically makes them creepy, perverted manchildren who should stay away from our children? Seriously?

I get that same feeling when I see that at my LGS.

Couple of things... First, do you hate these people for any other reason besides what they're wearing? I could maybe understand if they were also annoying, unbearable people to be around, but solely based on what they're wearing? That's just fucking stupid.

Second, most of the people who hang out around gaming stores to play Magic and such ARE fat, unattractive nerds. Sorry for "stereotyping", but it's true. If parents and their children don't want to hang around said gaming store, it's not going to be because some of the people there are wearing MLP clothes; it's going to be because there are a bunch of fat, unattractive nerds there, or that most of them are annoying/angry.

I think that this entire argument can be summed up with one statement: You hate MLP. That's fine; no one's gonna judge you for that. Just... Don't expect that many people to agree with you on this.

But somehow, grown men playing a card game made for children/teenagers is completely fine, compared to a cartoon for teenagers/children.

I must be lucky. Most of the people at my LGS don't look any different from people you'd meet anywhere else.

I probably look like the odd one out, being a 48 year old female who likes to wear video game related T shirts.

Most people acknowledge that it means I like those games, nothing more, nothing less.

One thing you are forgetting is that not all bronies see the ponies as sexual objects. I sometimes wear Lego shirts, and that doesn't mean I am advertising that I have a fetish for plastic figures that can be pulled apart and put back together.

That being said, you mentioned that some of them have the ponies in lingerie. If it is making you uncomfortable, talk to your LGS owner and explain your concerns. They can maybe talk to them, and have them stick to more decent shirts. I know that if I wore shirts with sexualized people on them, I would be asked to leave my LGS until I changed.

This small sub-set of the MTG community, as well as those that just don't take care of themselves, and it makes the game look bad honestly. I am more concerned with people who don't take care of themselves, like how hard is it to take a shower and dress halfway decently?

Dredge4life says... #18

I'm a huge advocate of dressing and expressing yourself the way you want to, so long as it doesn't offend or disrespect other people or yourself. That said, sexualized MLP is not okay. Normal MLP, fine. Once they start offending people, that's not ok. You should talk to your LGS's owner about this if it's bothering you.

I'm raising this thread from the dead (Ha, rhyme) simply to say that all of you guys complaining about bronies and freakishly obsessed anime fans are lucky and should be glad that's how your stores roll. My LGS just had a new wave of players come in that either smell like dead ass rolled in rotten eggs or they smell like a concert hall after a Cypress Hill concert. Its terrible. Send the bronies my way.
