I know there is already a thread about playing MTG over Skype, but I think its getting pretty stale and decided it was time to create a new fresh thread for such.

Me and PreZchoICE1 do skype rounds almost daily. It's just effortless and way easier than cockatrice.
Not to mention it's just easier to chat casually and discuss tactics/cards.

Caligula do you play with real cards and just have the cameras pointing down?

@bigguy99 We use real cards and yeah just point the camera down and show the field.
Sometimes it's a bit grainy and does require a bit of trust on both parts. But it's actually a good time, way better I find using your actual cards than clicking away on cockatrice. I'm sure you'd all agree.

I would except I don't have a webcam and enough cards to play what I want. Color proxies use so much ink D:

We have used/use written up proxies at times.
We playtested the shit outta Monastery Mentor and such before it was out. Super fun.

Yea, I guess when you know the game enough you just need card names, especially when you can just look them up where you are.

I love using skype. It is so much more convenient to play with real cards. I use untap.in a lot, but I can't play combo or control because it takes so long to resolve dig through time and fetches. It's just a hassle.

Yeah it's a lot of fun actually. We could start a casual league of a consensus format. Maybe get badges for our profiles or whatever I dunno what would be possible in regards to a prize but it could be cool to set it up with live stream, then others could watch or suggest decks for others to play.
I think it prepares you more for live play because you still have the human element in it to some degree more so than you would if you were on cockatrice or mtgo

As a laptop owner, this is slightly depressing...
If I ever feel the need to buy an external webcam and make a skype account, i'd be all over this, however.

Live Streaming matchups would be cool.
Mind you it's 100% casual so expect lots of fuck ups, Cheat counts through the roof and perhaps a slight haze....

I'm interested in playing. Can't remember my skype handle but I'll add it later. I don't mind playing against proxies to help test.
I saw some leaderboard system that untap.in was using. It looked like people could setup their own boards and such. Maybe that would work? I saw somebody mention having a league or something.

Another idea: maybe Epochalyptik could set up a forum category for Skype match making? Might be easier than digging through what will certainly end up being a huge ass thread.

Yeah usually I just have it on the table and tilt it down. Works easily.
PreZchoICE1 Uses his computer desk (so the monitor table is a bit raised) and it works fantastic.

My desk (home office) has three 27" cinema displays on it... No room for magic :/ gonna try and rig something up around the coffee table though. Too bad there's no ps4 Skype app.

I would love to play with some people, especially some competitive modern. I do not have a webcam yet and before I buy one I kind of want to know exactly how this would work. Could someone upload a video to Youtube of them playing over Skype? I'm sure once people see exactly how it would function more people will want to play. If someone does this thank you!

planning on setting up a livestream for this actually so that will work better than youtube because we can interact via the chat on livestream. Im really busy lately trying to get things ready for the upcoming GP so I find free time to be fleeting at the moment, but as soon as that is over I'd like to try and set up a league

I'm up for it as well, however, I have to re-create a skype account as I can't remember my login credentials. And I have to ensure that I have a working webcam. I'll keep ya'll updated as to when I get everything sitiated.

anyways, i was fairly pleased with my Skype setup for magic so i figured i would share. i am using my iPhone as my webcam though, so i had to use my laptop cam to take the pic lol... so yea shitty image quality here.
basically i have a tripod for my iPhone strapped to a basket (to hold it stable), and then i am using airplay to to mirror my phone to my tv. works great - i can see everything in high detail, and the microphone is perfect. only real prob is battery drain on the phone but i have it plugged into the ginormous battery in my backpack :D

Haha, that looks like the setup i used for a while sans tripod + sticky tac lol.
It worked out really well for me.
Laptop is just easier for me, and cam the cam is pretty decent.ps scrotes whats your skype name? Same thing here?
