MTG playgroup woes

My mtg playgroup has fallen apart! I am sad : (

Life has gotten in the way! The once numerous amount of people to play with in my group has dropped to 2 or 3. The downfall started when I moved 1 town over and 2 or 3 of the members stopped being friends. I dislike all this change! But such is life! I also assume that another reason is that most of the players are younger than I and just getting out on their own in life.

I can only assume that my usual MTG habits(visiting t/o multiple times a day, brewing, playtesting, and trading) will begin declining as well as I now play maybe 1 or 2 times a month. I am not ready for this change, especially since my lgs STILL hasn't gotten very much into modern(only an occasional FNM is modern) Anyone else experienced this type of thing??

My LGS is the thing falling apart right now... struggled for numbers in the last few weeks & now no events for a whole month. I still get casual play each week at a Friday games club, but I do miss the more "formal" competition & testing my deck against others outside the same 2-3 players.

MTGO might be the way to go, though personally I don't play online as I know I'd end up doing nothing else! lol

I don't even play anymore. I would like to, but I don't have a car and live off campus, so I can't really hang out with the other players anymore.

I want to go to competitive events, but don't have the time. I go to FNM every other week, but I mostly play online. Cockatrice and MTGO get me by.

Most of my close friends with whom I would usually play stopped. They found a new hobby (drugs). I still play with some local guys, but it's not the same as playing with really close friends. C'est la vie.

I've found the opposite. I had a period after I moved where I didn't play but then i found a new playgroup and all is well again. I just got out there and made some new friends.

I feel y'all. I would type up a story, but it's the same old story.

I'm in the same boat as Jay. My friends that I normally play with either go to college too far from me (all stayed close to home in MA, I went to Baltimore) or found other things they enjoy more. We still get together to play over breaks and stuff, but I don't get to play in paper as much as I'd like, also partially due to me lacking an easily accessible LGS.

I feels for ya all lol. The struggle is real. I don't think I'll go online for mtg except skype as I like the "paper cards" thing. I guess Destiny and such on xbox live will have to try and fill the void. ducttapedeckbox, get outta school already!! We need to raid with brokendwarf

There are always people at my LGS who play modern. They go every monday, literally. I'm not able to go that often, but when I do, it's great fun, and everyone is friends. It's not like FNM where there are heaps of people who show up once, or don't know what they're doing. At modern, people care about the game, and we can have serious (but fun) discussions about things.

I was confused at the title at first when you tagged me, but then I saw you had tagged me I assumed what you were talking about. You dudes do need to raid with me and my squad. The problem is getting everyone on at the same time. I ran through Crota again on Friday at like midnight.

Hallowed_Titan do you have a mic? Everytime we've done anything you don't have a mic. I know ducttapedeckbox has one but due to NAT issues I can't hear him in game chat and we can't arrange a party to hear each other; someone else has to start the party and we join them.

My playgroup broke up about a year ago, so I know what you mean. However, I am still helplessly addicted. Most of my time is spent here of T/O, or browsing various MTG sites for articles. I stay very current but havent played a game with physical cards in over 6 months.

MTGO is ok, but its not the same, plus I hate spending money on cards twice since I continue to buy paper cards because one of these days i'll go to a GP or what have you.

My advice, cling onto the game for as long as you can. There are always more people joining the game, which means sooner or later you'll find a playgroup.

I'm trying I'm trying Hallowed_Titan and brokendwarf. I'll be on Tuesday or Wednesday probably, but then I'll be home for break for a week so I won't be on. I'll be back Friday so maybe Xur will have something nice.

At the least we should do the weekly/nightfall. Last Word was nice from the last Nightfall :)

Sorry for not reading everyone's comments, but I'll do that later.

I hear you my friend. My play group fell apart when I moved out of town where we all played into the city and couldn't host game nights anymore. On top of that, the card shop that I played AND worked at closed last May leaving me pretty much @$$ out for playing cards almost a year now. I still have a couple of shops I can go to, but I don't feel comfortable bringing all my cards & decks to them, plus it just isn't the same for me anymore.

It does get better though. Take it as a little break and rest up a bit. In a few months, you'll be wanting to play again, browsing, brewing and building just like before. Find a shop and just make it your own and you will find a new play group. Good luck man!

You can at least test online. I usually try to brew something and test it a lot online so I can play against whatever shows up in my game and then start to build in paper. Maybe even get your friends from home on there.

yea since I moved to another city to study computer programming I completly lost my playgroup, the only thing that kept me from quitting mtg was t/o, and my new local lgs have a decent amount of events but mainly draft or sealed and not much beyond that. But they have arranged some modern events and they finally got permission to have pre-releases which is nice. so slowly I have found myself back in the game, although I don't play frequently, and I still miss my old playgroup.

I live in Maine jecder. Only 2 lgs near me and both cater to standard with even EDH getting more love than modern.
