TappedOut League - Final Call
Social forum

This is the final call for the Casual Modern TappedOut League.
Here are the essential details:
The main load of organisation is being done via Facebook. The group is here. Be sure to read the pinned post at the top of the group.
Signups end on Friday the 27th. You enter by putting your name on this document here.
By Friday the 27th you also need to have sent your decklist to Femme_Fatale. If you make it a private deck and then add Femme_Fatale to the shared list (it's in a box under the title of the deck when you go to edit it), she'll be the only one to see it. You will probably have to add her to the shared list AND THEN ALSO tag her in a comment on the deck. NOT IN THE DESCRIPTION - HAS TO BE A COMMENT. TappedOut has some intricacies haha. The point of doing this is just to make sure that no one suddenly swaps deck half way through to better face the meta.
By the end of Friday the 27th or Saturday the 28th I will have produced brackets. Essentially you just play everyone in your bracket - it's that easy. The rest of the rules etc. can be found with the sign up sheet.
Play will start on Saturday the 28th, after I've put up the brackets etc.
Questions?
Probably sometimes towards the middle or end of next week. I would expect Wednesday or something. Femme_Fatale - do you have a plan for that?

Sorry, femme said she'd handle decklists so I'm letting her handle that aspect. I'm spending most of my time checking that everyone who signed up has provided adequate contact and match details and chasing people up. You'd be amazed how many people sign up for the league but then don't provide any Untap or cockatrice details. There was someone that signed the league document and provided their real name (which is what we do if we're on facebook) but then wasn't actually on facebook so it was completely useless but of information. So I'm sorting boring stuff out like that.

I'm revealing them the moment the tournament starts. The moment I reveal them is the moment I'll have hard lists of everyone's decks and soft lists, so we can tell when someone makes changes.

Hard lists, as in something that doesn't change. Soft lists as in something that does change. I have codes that basically copy the deck-list exactly.

But in this case, what are the hard and soft lists? Aren't we not allowed to change our lists after they are revealed anyway?

One more thing: I propose that we only reveal decklists after the first round of matches has been played, so that players at least have a little bit of guesswork to do with regards to keeps, sideboarding and early-game decisions. This also lets us have a little more excitement rather than knowing exactly what is going on. Thoughts?
March 21, 2015 4:52 p.m.
First round of matches? What do you mean? That would just mean that some players would know what their opponent is playing and the other wouldn't. Wouldn't make sense. We either reveal before so everyone knows or we don't reveal at all. As soon as we reveal every single player can see the deck - not just one opponent. ALL of them.

That's how they do it at the World Championships. During the first Constructed round, players don't know what their opponents are playing unless they prepared together, and after that (when the feature match players would be put at an unfair advantage because everyone would know what they had) all decklists are publicized.
What I'm suggesting is that we only reveal decklists after each player has played a match (one round). That way, you allow players to figure out what cool stuff the opponent has as they play while creating suspense and a more enjoyable experience.
March 21, 2015 5:01 p.m.
Deck lists should only be known to femme as in a n real tournament only the one doing deck checks knows the lists then you have to find out what your playing when you start to play..... But then how would you know if they are running something not on there list? Hmmm maybe you get your opponents deck list when the match starts or something like that? I dont know I'm just blowing it out my ass right now

People will still try to change their deck lists, the point of keeping a hard and soft list is to catch them doing it.
March 21, 2015 5:08 p.m.
But GlistenerAgent, that just means the first person you play is at a disadvantage. This isn't a tournament, it's a league. There's a big difference in how it's organised in that you only play each other one time and that's it. This means you never reach a point where someone else could possibly know what you're playing UNLESS it's publicised. We don't have feature matches or tv or twitch etc so it's not so comparable.
I really think they either go up as soon as or we just don't bother with them at all. I thought we wouldn't have to bother. Who's going to cheat in casual? And if they do, who's going to care?
I don't know, maybe I'm too easy going.

One thing I would like to note is that if you play on Cockatrice (not sure about untap.in) you can save the replay of the game so that any rules/ win discrepancies can be handled by 3rd party review.
March 22, 2015 8:30 a.m.
Indeed. That is an advantage of trice. I would recommend untap though just because more people have it.
March 22, 2015 8:39 a.m.
OutspokenFerret says... #18
We could always just record the untap games with a screencapture program :D
March 22, 2015 8:45 a.m.
Too much effort to get 30 people to all do that and then get someone to watch every single game. Seriously. We're adults - don't cheat.
March 22, 2015 9:03 a.m.
I'm sure if TheHroth has time he could be a judge. He's very knowledgeable about rulings and mechanics of the stack.
March 22, 2015 9:29 a.m.
GlistenerAgent says... #21
So are most people. It's an issue of using the right deck, not getting the rules right.
March 22, 2015 9:33 a.m.
I guess :/ On untap.in you can see your opponents entire deck list after the game, those playing on untap.in can send that to femme and she can check if the lists are the same.
March 22, 2015 9:52 a.m.
Even if I had time I wouldn't want to spend it all settling disputes. I may know the rules, but a key point to judging is knowing what penalties apply to what scenarios, and I dont.
March 22, 2015 9:56 a.m.
The above is correct.
Just because we can do something doesn't mean we should. I really don't think Femme_Fatale is going to want to check decklists for well over 800 matches (30 players multiplied by 29 opponents). Which would be up to 2400 games by the way.
It easier to leave it to be up to the players. Check your opponents list on tappedout before the match. If you have suspicions then message me on facebook or tappedout. If you dont have suspicions then leave it.
March 22, 2015 9:59 a.m.
I thought you would only fight around 8 people not all 30?
March 22, 2015 7:29 p.m.
Oh I was wondering how long this will last? 1 day? Several days? A week?
March 22, 2015 7:50 p.m.
Just figured i should say this. If you ever have a ruling question on untap, you can hit the g next to the chat thing, in which it shows the plays. This brings you to global chat, for those who don't know, and in this, you can ask an administrator, for example, earthsfire, and 9/10 times they can give you a hand about your ruling. One downside is that it is hard to ask specific questions about a play, because your opponents could cheat, but meh, we all are adults or at least mature... (I hope)

You can't cheat on untap, unless you are playing Grenzo edh that is. The fact that it records everything that you do is pivotal in preventing cheating. Most rules questions can be solved through a google search or through the rule book.
March 22, 2015 9:34 p.m.
Kozelek - That's true. It'll still be well into the hundreds of matches, and possibly thousands of individual games.

Two more days until the reveal people! I have decks from these people. ChiefBell, could you please cross-reference this list?
March 25, 2015 10:13 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #32
Apparently a lot of user's decks have disappeared. I'm going to do some hunting.
March 25, 2015 10:17 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #35
So I need these people to send (or resend) me their decklist or tag me in their deck. I'd prefer it if you send me the decklist so that it doesn't get chucked in the layers of notifications.
I found the decks of these users:
I swear I added you guys to this list. Somethings funky.
March 25, 2015 10:39 p.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #36
Yeah I got yours GlistenerAgent, otherwise you wouldn't have been in the list :3

I'm the only one that can't tweak my deck-list ... wah.

Actually I think I am going to have to drop from this round of league, guys. College is really picking up speed right now, and I don't thnk I have the spare time to do it this time around.
March 26, 2015 4:38 a.m.
That's fair enough. We still have something like 36 people entered.
March 26, 2015 5 a.m.
Femme_Fatale says... #43
I've got nighthawk101's deck.
ChiefBell, you said we had around 36 people enter for this? I'm missing a good 10 people approx then.
March 26, 2015 7:25 a.m.
I'll retag tonight. We're definitely on 35-37. I'll also post an announcement in the facebook group just to get the message out.
GlistenerAgent says... #1
No, we play matches online so you can do whatever you want. Dragons of Tarkir cards are allowed as well.
