TappedOut Meet & Greet!

Hey fellow Planeswalkers,
Just wanted to create a thread where you could talk about yourself, your hobbies, etc. so that other users can actually get to know those who are active on this site. It will also give you chance to show off your TappedOut profile so other members can learn more about you etc. I'll go ahead and start!
I enjoy long walks along the beach, camping out under the stars and chocolate. jk Honestly, I grew up in the Midwest, Illinois to be exact. I grew up playing sports my entire life, went to college in Wisconsin with an ARMY ROTC Scholarship, played 4 years of college baseball at a small DIVIII school. I'm now fulfilling my military duties as an Armor Officer; it's a pretty sweet job. I love to travel, obviously play Magic, play video games, watch movies with my Wife, I love board games, and reading, mostly fiction or military nonfiction and Comic Books. That sums me up pretty well. You all probably see me lurking, and making snide sarcastic comments, but I don't mean them (most of the time). I've met a lot of really cool dudes and dudettes on T/O like Ohthenoises,tdaharsh,APPLE01DOJ,saj0219,ThisIsBullshit,slovakattack
(Sorry for summoning you; hope you don't mind)
Anyways, if you want to join in, please do! If you think this is stupid, fine. I don't really care. If you want to spam this, go for it. I just thought it would be cool to learn more about others and have a thread to just chill in for small talk I guess.
FAMOUSWATERMELON Yeah, probably. I couldn't find the Just Chatting thread, and I meant this to be more of an introduction/bio of yourself if you wanted to.

There's the link if you want it. It's classified information, don't spread it ;) But I'm all for this. I was just pointing out that there's already a thread for small chat (even though it's basically dead).

Why is it that we have so many military members here?
I started back in Alpha with my brother and stopped around Mercadian Masques. (Set was boring AF.)
I joined the military myself and when we were deployed to Afghanistan I found out that some of the guys I worked with played MtG too. I restarted while there during the Alara block and have been playing ever since.
I enjoy minecraft and Hearthstone as well.
I'm out of the Army now and have a loving wife and an adorable son. I'm hoping that he will end up just like me.
I live in Vermont and work in Maine, NH, and VT dealing with the court system's recording hardware and software. It's a taxing job but it's worth it.
November 17, 2015 6:35 p.m.
Ohthenoises That's really cool man. I also love Hearthstone ( I forgot to add that!) My ID is DrFunk27 #1197 if anyone wants to add me.
LiveForChaos For me, I like to associate a person's story/life behind a member name. You can obviously choose to not engage, but I personally like to know who I enjoy talking too. You're right though, it's like the Just Chatting thread, but it's not. Cuz I titled it Meet & Greet ;)
November 17, 2015 6:45 p.m.
LiveForChaos That's ok. If this dies, it dies. Every good thing must come to an end.

Ohthenoises, How did I miss that??? Someone else in the Northern Northeast??? Wauw....
So for myself, I live in and play in Southern Maine (maybe meet up sometime Noises?), and have been playing since about 10th Edition and haven't stopped since. I am also a US coin collector (as the name implies and will field any questions related to that subject) and a book aficionado with a slowly growing collection of First edition, old, and quirky books. Just picked up a 1st Edition Nightmares and Dreamscapes by Stephen King today.
So that's it about me. Hope I'm interesting :P

College student. Magic player. Should probably go to counseling for severe anger issues, but eh- that's what I have Magic and D&D for. Gotta vent somehow.

Ooooohhhh canterlotguardian what edition do you play?
November 17, 2015 7:36 p.m.
canterlotguardian says... #11
Primarily 3.5 as that's the edition I started playing. I also dabble in 4th and Advanced 2nd editions, as well as playing just about every non-D&D tabletop RPG under the sun.

Coinman1863 That's sweet! I also love and own old books. I have a first edition The Crisis - Winston Churchhill and I've also bought my wife every First edition UK printing of Harry Potter. She loves them.
canterlotguardian We all have a little anger. Some of us just get to release it in different ways. Mine happens to be with working out and blowing tons of crap up. lol

I wish I could blow things up for a living (legally, mind you). That would be the best.
November 17, 2015 7:43 p.m.
canterlotguardian Also, I've yet to play D&D but it's always intrigued me. I'll have to look into it. I love playing Star Wars X-Wing. I'm a HUGE HUGE HUGE Star Wars fan.

Oh, I play AD&D (insert book collection here). I feel old and in the minority, though I an really not the former.

Not really DrFunk27, you can the DM guide for something like $25 which is less than the 5e new ($50). The only really pricy thing in the lot is the Deities and Demigods which was made in only a 6 month print run due to copyright issues. Yay for TSR's legal department.
The non Cthulhu versions also run for about $20 each. So it's not too bad if you want to get into it.
But thanks anyway! They were my Dad's and I still use them today. It is just unusual to find them all in one place. I still have the original DM screens as well, but I forgot to add them into the gallery.

I need to find a place to get good printable DM screens. I have exactly zero and it's really irking me because I value DM screens highly when I'm doing my DM work.

Heya dudes. I am... very overworked, this semester. I apologize for everyone who's attempted to contact me, but I am absolutely swamped with work at the moment. Currently taking 21 credits (with a virtual total of 23-4), which practically amounts to 7 classes, a lab, a thrice-a-week internship, a directed study and a separate term paper. As much as I'd love to continue making videos for you guys, and being a more interactive member on this website, I just don't have the time at the moment, for which I apologize.
There is an upside, though: I get this done, and I've officially graduated college! Wewt. But yeah, stress is building.

I'm Brandon, or bigguy99. I like math a lot and I have for a while. Physics is cool too. I like analytical geometry and quantum mechanics. Enthusiast of various substances. Standing not so tall at 5'8" but I've been gym-ing for a while, so it's fine. I won't do your homework or answer your questions, but I can recommend some good books. This also helps. I also like computer hardware; my pok3r came today (black, backlit, ABS caps).

I grew up in Northern California playing just about every little kid sport imaginable, but was always a swimmer. I started playing magic with some guys on my swim team when I was a youth in the early nineties, and have played off and on since. In school I was too athletic to be part of the unpopular group and too weird to be part of the popular group (which never really bothered me all that much). I swam for a DI college team in Boston (and played water polo for them too, if anyone else even knows what it is) and wrote my senior honors English thesis on the influence of Celtic mythology in Middle Earth. Oh yeah, I'm borderline obsessed with the works of Professor Tolkien (and it was because of that obsession I met my wife).
Currently I teach various combinations of high school English and mathematics in Western Massachusetts and spend whatever time I have outside of teaching playing with my daughter who is just over 14 months old. I've taught everything from American literature to AP Calc.
There's very little on my profile, but I'll be updating it one of these days...

I hail from the land of the Mormons. Currently taking the semester off college, and working as a PT Aide in a Physical Therapy clinic. I like cats, EDM, and basketball (and most other sports) when my patellar tendons aren't fucky. I play Modern (Esper Control, GW Hatebears) and am starting to dip my toes into EDH/Commander. I played Hearthstone for a while (made it to rank 2), but stopped a bit after the Auctioneer nerf. Thinking about picking it up again though after watching some Twitch streams recently.

I'm a Chicago-area high school student who got hooked on Magic when my teacher started a Magic club in middle school and introduced me to the basics. I had some experience in standard in Innistrad block, but gave up on the format after I watched RTR rotate out. I primarily play Esper colors, generally with control thrown in. Currently rowing for a Chicago-area team. It's cool. tclaw12 is like the best guy for Esper colors, btw.

I suppose I should throw a short bio in the ring. I'm Orthodox Jewish, on the more modern end of the Orthodox spectrum. Grew up religious, etc. It's a defining factor of my life. I'm currently at school in Queens, New York- but my family lives in Los Angeles, so I travel back and forth a lot. Hopefully this current semester will be my last, so by January, I'll be residing in L.A. I'm currently on track to being a clinical therapist.
I currently play BUG Delver in Legacy, 4-color Gifts in Modern, and a variety of Commanders. My favorite slices of the color pie are Sultai and Esper. My favorite dual colors are Azorius. I like foils, even though the upkeep is a pain.
If anyone wants to know any more, or has questions of any kind, just ask. I don't bite :p

I'm kind of in the same boat as slovakattack. Academics has been defining my life this semester- when I tell someone that I'm home, I have to clarify if home means my apartment or the library. I am in my junior year of studying to be a mechanical / aerospace engineer, and will also graduate with a math minor. I'm looking at staying in Baltimore (at this university) for a fifth year to get my masters. They pay for half of it and itll only end up being five classes- not bad at all. I'm originally from Massachusetts.
I'll talk about non school stuff at some other point.

This has been really great guys. I never knew a lot of this info! I'm glad y'all are opening up.

Ohthenoises: Gdammi, Ohthenoises. I was hoping people had forgotten about that.
Yeah, ducttapedeckbox, I know how you feel. You're almost there, just a little more!

slovakattack Haha, if you say "I love tapping " our friendship is over. lmao

bigguy99 I completely agree. Unfortunately my teaching load this year doesn't include calc, which made me very sad. I sometimes take some time in my rhetoric class to talk about calculus (though my favorite class in college was Abstract Math)

Just have to make it until Friday, then I have a week long vacation for thanksgiving :) My semester is over when I get back, aside from finals of course.
Taking an art history course is definitely not the most enjoyable thing for an engineer (or at least me).
November 18, 2015 10:47 a.m.
saj0219: Abstract math? Never bothered with that but I did study a bit of discrete math on my own and took a course in it. I'm never touching set theory again (namely toposes), but graph theory is some cool stuff. Counting and probability were also particularly painful experiences.
Also, I should mention that the pok3r is my second "real" keyboard. Old faithful is a white Ducky Shine 3 with browns and a really nice set of engraved white PBT caps. I hope other people like mechanical keyboards too.
Lastly, I'm taking a semester off (having gone through two years of school so far) to make some money first, but I plan to continue as a math major. I'll probably end up teaching and researching or researching and teaching; two types of professors.
