Where is MTG most popular in the states?

Im planning on moving at the end of this year, for many reasons, but one of which is because there is practically no scene for MTG around me. Im in Maine currently.
At the game store i go to most frequently, we can barely get enough heads together for a modern game sometimes. The other game stores near me are over an hours drive away, which sucks. When I show up with a $2000+ deck and end up playing noobs, I feel like an ass hole.
So im wondering, where in the states is magic most popular? In which cities are bigger tournaments held in most frequently? Is anyone else having the same issues as me out there?
Thats all I think. Thanks for looking!
Oh god im like a solid 3 hours from MA, but id make the trip for bigger tournaments

Atlanta has a pretty good MTG scene. If you're close enough to the metro area there is basically a store conducting events every day of the week.

My understanding is that the FL scene is pretty great, especially around Orlando. You can use the Store & Event Locator to look around the specific area you plan on moving to.
I know New York City and the surrounding areas have always been a hotbed of activity. Star City Games is in VA and supports numerous events in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. Events in NC (where I live) are smaller than in other areas, but there's a bunch of them scattered all over the place.

OBVIOUSLY Minnesota... Great community, Great temperatures (Currently at -5...) And nice, drawn out winters!
But seriously, I have a uncle that lives in Florida... Every time I go down to visit, I end up at multiple magic events... As previously stated, Orlando seems good...

I was under the impression DC was pretty big on the mtg scene. I'm in Pittsburgh which is okay. We have many stores and get an event now and then (December has a GP, I believe).

being a native of eastern Massachusetts, I can vouch for fluffybunnypants. I have found about 5 LGS in my area that are all under an hour from where I live and they range in competitive nature.

There seem to be a lot of comp rel events in Florida as well as there being a lot of shops in central-south Florida (can't speak for north Florida). Tampa/St. Pete, Orlando, and the Miami area seem to have pretty good scenes with multiple shops of varying casual/competitive-ness.
Besides that, there's also an enormous amount of judges in the southeast for some reason.

If you come to the west coast, I mainly play commander so this may not be for you ;p I always have this issue due to a serious commander player with 2 decks @ $1,800+, and a random boros @ $750+ so ya i know your pain, but east coast dominate in comp, but if you go to the west coast, portland/seattle I have friends there so i take a vacation once and awhile and there pretty big in portland, and vancouver, and seattle nd such. I live in california, and this place unless you live in a major city just sucks. L.A is ok, um my playgroup is based around the chico, lincoln, and lake tahoe area as you can see we are spreadout as hell, but we dont play @ hobby shops cause the last time we came in they said we need to play "toned down" decks cause commander is a "casual" format so ya the struggle, but for modern youd probably be good but florida is your best bet Ive been there 4 times each time I spent most of my time playing magic then doing a vacation cause there was a lot of people playing and I could play my good decks it was a miracle

Pacific Northwest was also good to me. Spent some time in Vancouver and the competitive scene was okay plus everyone was quite nice.

I wish I had a more competitive scene around me. I live about a half hour from Nashville, which is okay you know we get the occasional GP and stuff like that. I just wish the modern scene was bigger around here.

I live in southeastern Massachusetts (45 minutees out of Boston) and there's probably 6 or 7 game stores within 15 miles of me that hold Magic events twice a week or more. While there are no gaming stores in my town, MtG's popularity has been growing rapidly here.

It's all over the Eastern MA/RI area. There's usually something to do 3 out of 4 weekends a month that's within an hour or so drive.
