A Dose of Random Thought - Bad Guy vs Bad Guy.

Spoilers, Rumors, and Speculation forum

With SOI around the corner, and all the speculation of when/how the Eldrazi story will continue, I thought I'd drop a bit of my own speculation. What if Emrakul, now on the lam, ends up arriving on/encountering Phyrexia(ns)?

Each story usually is about Good vs Evil. Why never Evil vs Evil? It's not like they are looking out for each other. This meeting would result in a few different things; the first being another colorless matters set/block, the second, a "To the Death" battle to eliminate a threat to the multiverse making room for new encounters in the future.

What do you think, could it be possible? Who would come out on top? Would it be a fair fight, or does one side have the upper hand?. Both sides currently have an open ended story at the moment so who knows what WotC has planned.

Would be very cool, for sure. A Phyrexian corrupted Emrakul? 8D

K34 I'm going to quote maro on this when saying: "Do you hate the Multiverse?"

I personally like the idea of this scenario as it would tie off multiple loose ends nicely while giving us a grand ammount of forward momentum. Here's how I believe it would go:

First we'll see Emrakul descend upon Phyrexia and with the initial descent she'll wreak havoc amongst the phyrexians. This will give the last holdouts of mirrodin led by Koth and karn a chance to fight back. The battle would then shift in favor of the phyrexians who given a formidable common enemy will finally unite and we'll see one of the five praetors or even a new character become the sole leader of the phyrexians. From here Emrakul will be killed and be last remnants of restiance wiped away. That will lead to karn and Koth to flea in search of help against the phyrexians once again. Koth will go to theros in search of elspeth while karn maybe attracted to Ugin who will be intrigued and call up his old pal Sorin and somehow Jace will find out leading the gatewatch to this plane to.

All the while nicol bolas and tezzeret have been watching and scheming and are tickled pink or terrified at the phyrexians progress at how quickly they destroyed Emrakul the strongest eldrazi. Bolas would then toss tezzeret as fodder to the new Phyrexian leader in an attempt to ally himself with them. Whether or not that succeeds sees where bolas stands in all this.

Speaking of Phyrexia all the while the forces of good have been gathering up they've been sitting around discecting a giant peice of meat capable of crossing planes in the blind eternities. They soon develop a way to traverse planes and which would finally give us a multiversal wide war in which we'll finally see Ugin vs bolas and multiple other epic battles. We'd finally see Phyrexia spread out again and conquer worlds. And this entire plot could take decades and keep players engrossed in the story line since it would be an epic not seen since the weatherlight saga.

And all of this would stem from a big bad vs big bad matchup.

K34 It would be cool, but I'm not sure Emrakul is the corruptable type. Both sides have their own type of corruption, and as stated before in UR the Eldrazi we see are small manifestations of their actual beings. If Phyrexians were to come out on top would they have truely won, or just put a damper on them. Same other way around, if the Eldrazi were to turn all to dust, I'm sure there's someone/thing/place glistening oil is stashed away.

Ej1997 At first I did not think of the good guys involvement at all, but now that you mention it, it'd be kind of funny how that plays out upon the Eldrazi's arrival. They'd all be sitting around like "Did things just get infinitely worse, or better?". In this case I would still think it would be better if they didn't involve themselves, but maybe still had some sort of "escape/get help" story tied in.

The reason why the forces of good would be here is simply because they're our main focus on he plot and they will inevitably triumph. The question will always be of course how long can they persist to keep the same protagonists alive. A story like this would put a clock on some characters for when they will inevitably perish. And also because while a block of baddies bashing baddies is good we still need to move the plot along.

It would be nice to not see a story about the major planeswalkers being a bunch of one-dimensional Mary Sues, and this might allow for that.

I think it's better with a new antagonist, though... perhaps against an old one. Some new guy who has a beef with the Phyrexians, Emrakul, Nicol Bolas or something... and doesn't care who gets in the way. That'd be fun. Having established villains clash would be kind of clunky, unless one of them hasn't been explored enough.

Before I address other situations here let me ask, are we sure we want Phyrexia to have the opportunity to vivisect eldrazi? The goal of Phyrexia is to reach the pinnacle of perfection and the the eldrazi have evolved past the need for color or even for reality itself. If emi did find its way to Phyrexia that would mean it can essentially planeswalk and that's yet another thing Phyrexian shouldn't get access to again.

All that said, I would like to see a vilian vs vilian mash up and if it did take place on mirrodin we could potentially hit two birds with one stone. Mirrodin is an entirely artificial plane, it holds no real role in the balance of the multiverse. With the right knowledge and enough power to could simply destroy the plane with both emi and the Phyrexians still in it. I mean we almost destroyed zendikar and they were trying not to do that so imagine if they aimed to destroy the plane outright? Karn brought it into the multiverse, he and a band of others can surely take it out.
