Abzan will use different magic in DTK, not Ancestor-Necromancy?

As we can read here: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/uncharted-realms/no-end-and-no-beginning-2015-02-11, Daghatar the Adamant has choose to forsake the clan's long-time tradition of calling their ancestor to their side to battle, which is seen by Dromoka, the Eternal as a form of Necromancy, and she despise it. All in attempt to make peace between the Abzan House and the Dromoka brood.
Since there will be no more spirit-speaking magic, will the Abzan be a magicless brutes or will they employ a new magic? As always, the lore in MTG is fascinating to read.
So let's say that based on the two Uncharted Realms about the Sultai and Abzan khans surrendering the leadership of their clan to the corresponding brood, that the pattern continues and all the clans lose their enemy colors. What if the forsaken enemy colors from each clan abandon their original clan to join the one that most supports their beliefs? For example, the abandoned Abzan "necromancers" could band together with the Sultai, and the Naga that disappeared from the Sultai could more closely embrace green and join the Temur.

I would love for the Abzan's main color to be green. Perhaps the Rakshasa will be a cursed clan in the next set?

I'm actually really digging the Uncharted Realms shorts for this set. They've all been really interesting. It will be interesting to see the changes, and maybe non-changes, to the clans we were introduced to in KTK.
I really liked the one about Tasigur.
February 11, 2015 7:26 p.m.
Not sure I understand this honestly. A 5/5 dragon ordering a clan with an army of Siege Rhino's just sounds like it would end disastrously for the dragon, bolster or no bolster. It's like, just send ten rhino's charging at it and watch it implode.

I'm also assuming that we may see clans drop to allied two color groups, the same as the dragons that they emulate from FRF. Abzan shifts to G/W, Jeskai to U/W, Mardu to R/B, Sultai to U/B and Temur to R/G.

The allied group idea sounds interesting. I imagine Abzan will be mostly G/W in DTK, but there will be some defector, some B, which still practice Spirit Calling

@ExileThis: I think the 'naga disappearance' is bound to happen, whether Sarkhan saves Ugin or not, since I think that part of their(naga) plan to rule the clan. (A 'puppet' human khan, and since that doesn't work, they chose to rule the clan themselves.)
@fluffybunnypants: Too bad Tasigur is dead. But, maybe, just maybe, a ZOMBIE KHAN? Woooooooooooooooooo!!

@kyuuri117: a card's power level is often unrelated to it's power level lore wise. Dromoka is described as being at least 3 times bigger tan an Ivorytusk Fortress. And she didn't have a single scratch, despite the thousands of weapons that have struck her. in essence, she is beyond the power of the abzan forces, especially considering that her forces continue to grow at an alarming rate
February 11, 2015 8:03 p.m.
CommanderOfBolas The entire modern format is crumbling beneath the power of the Siege Rhino Horde. No dragon can stand up to them.

Pretty sure that Dromoka is a faster clock than a Siege Rhino. Also pretty sure that Siege Rhino dies if it attacks into Dromoka.
February 11, 2015 8:09 p.m.
Yes, but there is only one Dromoka. There are legions of rhinos. The odds are not in the dragons favor.
February 11, 2015 8:15 p.m.
Unforgivn_II says... #15
Well, the Rhinos did kill Dromoka in the first place. But Sarkhan changed that, so now I'm pretty confident in the dragons.

I just realized Tasigur ACTUALLY died in that uncharted realms. I thought he went into hiding, but I just read it again. That's not good. First Sultai gets rekt, and now Abzan loses necromancy? Maybe the dragons just hate necromancy. Killing all of the bad necromancers then making Abzan stop all their spirity stuff.
February 11, 2015 8:26 p.m.
Wait, really? I don't follow lore, but that's awesome! On a side note, I'm pretty sure Sarkhan couldn't defeat a horde of rhino's either.
February 11, 2015 8:27 p.m.
HolyFalcon says... #18
Wait. Now the Abzan and the Dromoka brood are at peace. Interesting, dragons and a clan coexisting......
February 11, 2015 8:27 p.m.
Magicrafter are you serious? Why does Wotc have a hard on for killing the best things in the format in their lore. Xenagos and Elspeth were defining walkers in Theros, and both are dead, and Tasigur was probably the best card to come out of FRF... and now he's dead. Just kinda odd. Why couldn't they kill this Daghatar guy, he's pretty damn useless.
February 11, 2015 8:30 p.m.
Unforgivn_II says... #20
@kyuuri117 - Well, I can only assume they did. All the dragons died before Khans of Tarkir. That's why the set had no dragons (also, Dragon Throne of Tarkir is Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury's head).
But Sarkhan went back in time (the same time as Fate Reforged), when dragons are still around, in order to save Ugin. And I'm pretty sure Ugin is a boss, and will help the dragons out. Also, butterfly effect, etc

kyuuri117 they just like to kill cool people because it makes everyone rage. Elspeth dies: OMG NUUUU!! Tasigur dies: OMG NUUUUU!!!!!! Now guess what: The multiverse explodes and we get a whole new setting with no reprints of pre-multiplode (What I'm calling the multiverse explosion) cards. And best thing to come of the multiplode: Jace dies.
February 11, 2015 8:33 p.m.
Huh. That skull seat is actually really to scale, size wise. Not too ridiculously big but still enormous.
Yes but I'm pretty sure Sarkhan is insane. Not sure how he managed to go back in time and save the world, but i've got to imagine it's some sort of M Night Shyamalan plot twist.
February 11, 2015 8:36 p.m.
Magicrafter ...the multiverse is exploding? Is that how they are dealing with the format changes after this last core set?
February 11, 2015 8:38 p.m.
HolyFalcon says... #24
Kinda random, but is khanship passed down through generations? I don't think so, wanna make sure.
February 11, 2015 8:38 p.m.
HolyFalcon says... #25
kyuuri117 exactly. The set after Origins won't be previewed, and you can only see what the cards are if you buy packs the day it comes out, or if you looked online the minute it was released. At least that's what SHOULD happen.....
February 11, 2015 8:40 p.m.
Is there a source for this? I'd be interested in getting more information. On the one hand, I actually really LIKE that there are not going to be spoilers. On the other, I'm going to want to preorder a few boxes if that's the case as EVERYTHING is going to be much more inflated than usually as people won't be able to pre-test everything.
February 11, 2015 8:45 p.m.
kyuuri117 he's joking....
"At least that's what SHOULD happen....."

I'd be very surprised it WoTC ever did this.

I like how there's outrage over WotC possibly killing M:tG's version of Joffery Baratheon. Hell, I was annoyed by Tasigur just by reading that segment.
February 11, 2015 8:55 p.m.
Ah, yea guess I missed that. And, as I said earlier, I don't read the lore. Just confused that a good amount of the named, playable cards in the format seem to be ending up dead.
February 11, 2015 8:56 p.m.
fluffybunnypants, MtG's Joffery Baratheon... I lol'd. I see it. Both seem like monumental jerks.

kyuuri117 I would love to see what I said happen, but there's no way it will unless all of T/O and lots of others want it. Who wants it?

This thread has turned into the discussion of a set that's not even a set, and not Abzan Necromancy. Sorry magnetcrocodile!
February 11, 2015 9:28 p.m.
It never said that he actually died he was refering to slugmar as death not that he was dying
February 11, 2015 9:49 p.m.
magnetcrocodile says... #35
Isn't implied that he drown? (AKA dead)
CMIIW since I can't access the article ATM
February 11, 2015 9:54 p.m.
Well, to me this would pretty much confirm that Abzan will ditch magic and just be in DTK. But I really don't think they'll be without magic. They'll still have cool desert magic like what's shown in Sandblast and Citadel Siege.

kyuuri117 lore wise, most dragons in Magic are around the 30/30 range at least. but they can't put that on a card.

actually I'm probably really conservative on that estimate. the younger dragons are 30/30, a giant legendary one is probably more like 90/90, going by a normal human being 1/1.

for Emrakul probably yeah. the small commons would be like 500 ish.

I think that each clan is now going to be allies with their dragon brood, and use them as "super weapons" against each other. So far, the Abzan have formed a truce with Dromoka and Tasigur sacrificed his life to Silumgar (while also giving him a golden throne), so the other three clans should be close behind in buddying up with their respective broods.
February 12, 2015 8:22 a.m.
canterlotguardian says... #44
oh god... Atarka probably won't want to buddy up to the Temur. he seems way too chaotic for that to ever happen. Ojutai might be cool with the Jeskai, provided it's Shu Yun that leads the negotiations. Kolaghan... yeah, the Mardu are screwed. lol
February 12, 2015 10:07 a.m.
magnetcrocodile says... #45
And it will be interesting if somehow the Sultai, led by the Nagas and the Silumgar brood met. What kind of bargain would have struck, for both of them to accept the truce?
And @Regigigas23, I don't think the golden throne is 'enough' or even remotely satisfy Silumgar, since, well, let's face it. He's not some kind of LoTR dragon.
February 12, 2015 10:23 a.m.
OmegaAura113 says... #46
Now that Tasigur is dead, the naga may take over and try to strike some kind of bargain with silumgar...forced or not. That may even capture him.
February 12, 2015 10:38 a.m.
@canterlotguardian The Mardu just fight and fight and fight until they earn grudging respect. That's always how the battle group manages to make friends with people.
February 12, 2015 1:18 p.m.
Also, nothing in that Tasigur Uncharted Realms confirms that he is dead.

Devonin
the Mardu must be Irish cause they drink and drink and drink and drink and drink and drink and FIGHT.
February 12, 2015 4:36 p.m.
@Devonin that's what I said about it but no one seems to have actually read it till the end and just assumed that he died

Abzan goes to.nature maybe? That would switch thier main color to green.
I approve
