Because so many requested it, heres a place to talk about all the spoilers that don't deserve threads of their own.
This set isn't confusing, it's terrible.
Loads of overpriced nonsense and very little to get excited about.

Stop comparing the set to Zendikar. Zendikar was the result of power creep. I'd prefer this set over Theros any day.

Doesn't anyone here LIKE the set? In my opinion, it's a great set. The Eldrazi and the Allies both have one thing in common: synergy. If you put down an Eldrazi card, It will either help you ramp up to the big ones, fuel your processors, be a bomb, or be a processor so you can use the stuff you exiled. Every deck you can build in this set seems synergistic, with every land, or creature, or Drone you put on the table triggering a volley of Molten Nursery type effects, a truckload of Rally, or pumping all of your Landfall guys. The set is awesome, just not in the way you all think to look. I look forward to the upcoming prerelease, as it is such a rich limited environment.

I think a lot of people are kind of thinking that it seems like a very simplistic, 'hand-holding' set. It seems very, kind of.... obvious what the archetypes are draft possibilities are.
But I'm reserving all judgment until I've played a few times.

Really? I see converge, ramp, landfall, and Awaken decks possible, and thats just looking at the green non- Eldrazis.

I will build a competitive 5 color converge deck and win FNMs, challenge accepted.

I'm super excited for both limited and standard for this set. Limited has a lot of possibilities and with so many colorless cards, it could be easier to get into a color and just splash more colorless cards than you intended. Standard seems to have a ton of potential as well. Control is back. Gruul elementals. SOMEONE will figure out allies. and yeah people are complaining about aggro not being a thing anymore, but there's only 5 sets in standard. Aggro is always toughest right after rotation. Wait it out. I'm very excited to play this set

the hardest part is going to be the mana base, since it won't have enough basics for the tangos to come in untapped most likely.

In that case you can just play the clan lands or the life gain lands from khans.

There's a lot of cards to grab basics, maybe just just a bunch of those with like two of each basic and then the clan lands..
September 20, 2015 10:14 a.m.
2 of each basic is actually pushing it. I found that with 26 lands 2 of each basic works, and adding 2 of each fetch on top of that isn't bad. It's still really weird on early turns though because it feels like "gee I wonder which colors I'll get this time". Of course I'm sure you could built it with say, no basic plains and then choose cards based on not needing till T5. It's just very strange. Filter lands were easier to figure out imo.

SomethingRandom says... #15
There's a million and one ways to find basic lands so I think I'm going to rely on that.

It seems the playtest feature is not working, anyone know somewhere else I can test out a few opening hands?
September 20, 2015 10:51 a.m.
Not being able to playtest when you just put together a 5 color deck is really annoying isn't it..

Nah, not really. That card is way to slow for modern! :)

I think those are to slow to ever matter to Tarmogoyf.

I think this set will end up like Innistrad for me. At the time I was like eh it's just okay, then I look back at it and I'm like this is easily one of my top 3 favorite sets (blocks?) and I wish I saw all this stuff while I was playing.
September 20, 2015 12:18 p.m.
Which do you guys think will be better in standard? Esper control or Grixis control?

Like I said, I don't hate the set yet. It just confuses me.
Keeping an open mind though...
September 20, 2015 12:27 p.m.
Im debating between grixis or esper control and im trying to figure out which one i should push to use during gameday.
September 20, 2015 12:34 p.m.
Im mainly looking for control I dont think temur is gonna be to amazing at it. Though i would say temur elementals is looking like it could be a deck.

I play Temur ramp into eldrazi, its been doing well.

I kind of touched on it in an earlier post, but I'll try to do a better job explaining what I mean.
I'm not disappointed that the set isn't stacked with monstrously powerful cards like ZEN. I'm as wary of power creep as anyone. But the execution of the set when compared to ZEN seems off. The pushed archetypes seem extremely rigid, especially for Limited, and I have the impression that those who try to build outside them will have little success.
As for Constructed, I have the distinct impression that Standard's top decks will use fairly little of the new set. Plenty of cards already exist in Standard to replace what rotates out with Theros, and BFZ doesn't offer a great deal to compete for slots in existing decks. Now, I'm not saying that BFZ should be trying to fit into an earlier meta (indeed, it is its own set and should not take design queues from a previous Standard). However, I do kind of wish that BFZ would challenge the previous meta. Maybe it will do this, but it is not very obvious to me. I'm puzzled that it doesn't seem to contain many viable Constructed cards which could constitute new decks that can challenge the current top decks in Standard. I'm concerned that it won't impact Constructed play too much outside of a couple big bomb cards and maybe a dedicated RG landfall deck. I guess I'm just surprised because my overall impression of the set as a whole is that it won't do too much to dent the established meta, which I think is strange given an entirely new block is coming in along with the rotation of four whole sets.
I'm keeping an open mind though, and I'm not going to start hollering "this set sucks" to all and sundry. I'm merely discussing my own impressions of the card pool and wondering what others think.

I can sort of see where you are coming from with the Limited argument, but we should hold judgement until we play with the set. For all we know Endless One could be the next Goblin Rabblemaster. As for the top decks, Abzan won't be going anywhere, but rogue lists will pop up all over the place.
September 20, 2015 12:54 p.m.
@ JakeHarlow You've got many great points and I agree with everything you've said there.
Look at Abzan SiegeRhino Control. It's losing Elspeth and Thoughtseize. That's certainly not enough to make me think "well better come up with something totally new" and those cards are easily replacable, albeit with subpar options. Still, there is no reason to stop playing Abzan. You just have to use 2-4 painlands and put Retreat to Kazandu in your sideboard vs Mono and it's a cinch.
Abzan was just my first example, but Jeskai is still very competitive without lightning bolt and scrylands, partly because Jeskai Ascendancy loots, partly because Jace's Sanctum can scry, partly because the new retreat can scry for days. Personally I'm going to be building decks with creatures from the Khans block aside from 1 or 2 bombs in each deck.
September 20, 2015 12:56 p.m.
Im really torn on this. Because i want to do well. Im just struggling to gauge which of the 3 color pairs is gonna sit the most snuggly with control.
My Esper Build is mostly planeswalkers and some creature generators with a bunch of boardwipes, counter spells and Removal.
My Grixis build uses Land Destruction, Counter and Burn spells that focus on exiling things.

I agree, and I am withholding judgment until I play it more than a few times. I'm excited to see rogue lists. I hope many of them succeed.

For straight control Grixis is probably best, followed by Esper, then Sultai.. If you're like me and hate having to plan ahead and leave mana up for counter spells and would rather just run removal for days then Mardu control is where it's at, strongly considering it for my standard deck.

Also after some play testing I've found that unless your deck is only running like 8 non-creature spells, Beastcaller Savant is not good.

And Bring to Light is a power house in that 5c converge deck.
September 20, 2015 2:54 p.m.
The really awesome part to me about Bring to Light is that you can "save" the spell for whenever. It's like the spell is always in your hand but your opponent can't discard it or make it go away with Day's Undoing.

OP_Magikarp says... #49
Well if you fetch a Woodland Wanderer with Bring to Light, it will enter the battlefield with 0 counters because you didnt use any colors to cast it

Oh, right. I thought Bring to Light was put into your HAND.

I mean, we got 4 LEGENDARY ALLIES in BFZ, but not a 5c one. If Wizards doesn't do one in oath, there will be protests in the streets. I know everybody is rooting for Orphan Brigade after Drana's UR.
