He's not great. 4-drop planeswalker that does literally nothing when you're behind on board state. Epitomy of 'win more'. Not the kind of card that fits into decks considering all possible outcomes.

The first ever planeswalker with less than 2 mana symbols in his cost (other than Karn) if memory serves. Easy to splash in Limited.

-sigh-

People here really need to learn what "broken" means.

June 26, 2014 11:45 a.m.

zandl When I said broken, I meant on a board state in which he could be utilized. For example, when you have Elspeth tokens. He is not inherently good on his own; broken merely applies to situations where he could be played to his full potential.

Not really. Broken refers to a card thats just ridiculously overpowered. A card that depends on other things propping it up isn't ridiculously overpowered - in fact it's just finely balanced. In many ways he's not even that good at all.

You can't say he's utterly broken if conditions 1, 2, and 3 are met - because by that logic every card in the entire game is broken. A truly broken card is something like Deathrite Shaman because no matter what happens he gives you value. He always does something useful

Not really; "broken" means "warps the format around it; you either play it or lose to it."

That's broken.

Jace, the Mind Sculptor was broken in Standard because you literally had to play it, play the only thing that could beat it maybe 50% of the time, or just lose to either one.

This Ajani's really good, but broken? Ehhhnot so much.

I agree with zandl - it's often a card that you have to either play or know how to play around if it does land.

/agree with ChiefBell and zandl

"'broken' means 'warps the format around it; you either play it or lose to it.'" I would add "gives a color an ability they aren't supposed to have in a way that is better than the color that is supposed to have it to the definition as well (i.e. Dark Ritual is busted because it's a better ritual than red has and gives black a mana ramp they aren't supposed to have.)
