I'm sensing an instant staple in eternal formats.

I would disagree with you. This card is not exceptionally good in Legacy or Vintage. For Legacy, it is a 2 mana 1/1 which is not very good. Also the damage that you would be dealing to opponents via instants or sorceries would be 3 damage from Lightning Bolt and Lava Spike , which would not do much against a Tarmogoyf with enough cards in the graveyard. This would not be played in vintage since the creature counts are so low in those decks, its not worth the space it would be taking up.

There is also modern to consider here.

I see your point but burn has always had to choose between to the face and to the creature. Tarmogoyf is going to be a problem in either legacy OR modern but the extra control that he provides is well worth the slot.

That being said, T2 this guy, T3 you untap with 3 mana and Lava Spike > Lightning Bolt they take 6 and their Goyf dies.

I could see it being used in modern but in the other eternal formats, it is very lackluster. Would the burn decks in Legacy cut Grim Lavamancer to play this guy? or would they cut some of their burn spells, making Satyr Firedancer less effective. I guess we'll see once the set is released.

Grim Lavamancer is typically used for creature control so I'd say yes. My wife and I just recently cut the lavamancer from her Boros burn deck: Parasite Gods Ablaze and we were considering dropping the Ball Lightning and 2x Hellspark Elemental for this dude.

So you can have Satyr Firedancer out and at some point play Oracle of Bones with a Pinnacle of Rage in your hand. Then have a Felhide Spiritbinder to chuck more Kamikaze Oracle of Bones at people at people. I dont know if I want Minotaurs to be playable guys, I am scared.

Seems very likely to be staple in modern burn. Way more powerful than lavamancer and able to kill a lot more. 1mana 3 damage to the face, and remove a dark confidant or early Goyf (lightning bolt). This card is great. And in standard it will definitely see play. Cast it for free with BTE and instantly get more value on magma jet and lightning strike.

This is a card that I will definitely be picking up in the 4's at the pre-release.

I shall call him Elton John. Or EJ for short.

The flavor text is pretty nice also. Just an all round great card

And Searing Blood just became even more of a thing. Kill 2 toughness creature, do 3 damage, kill 3 toughness creature. Heck, just run a bunch of burn, this guy, and Chandra's Phoenix , good board control and just...I think this guy is going to see plenty of play, we just might have to figure out the best creature:burn spell ratio.

I don't see him taking up slots that couldn't be replaced already by Young Pyromancer , especially in older formats. I'd be careful buying this guy on release. No doubt will have an inflated price tag. SCG has him listed at $1.99 when he's probably closer to 75 cents.

He seems good, but not too good. His vulnerability is a thing, as he has no evasion, no way to get around kill spells or bounce spells, he only impacts the board if there are creatures to get rid of.

However he does have potential, as do all cards when they are first spoiled. People thought Desecration Demon wasn't great, but the second rotation hit, the dude spiked in price. He can remove creatures while also burning the opponent in the face. In burn decks, as I was taught, having a choice was great. Now we don't have to choose? Awesome sauce

Agreed, in standard there isn't too much support for him.

On the other hand, a modern deck like Making Parasite Gods Blaze (my wife's) would seriously benefit from it. A deck where T1 Vexing Devil , T2 Satyr Firedancer , and T3 3x Lightning Bolt (or some variation thereof) means that you can deal with an entire field in one go.

Yes he dies easy, so did Grim Lavamancer but that didn't stop him from being ran in decks.

I would honestly cut grim lavamancers for him in legacy burn. I always have to choose between bolting delver or stoneforge or do I just race them. also this + Sulfuric Vortex is a free burn spell each upkeep

Still, Chain Lightning and Lightning Bolt can go to the face and the Satyr can kill off other things.

I'm going to try him out for a while in my legacy deck over pyrokid. He hasn't been as spectacular as I had hoped.
